[ OPEN ] Now I need to grease a palm

WHO: Adelaide LeBlanc & You
WHAT: Letters & a Loot Crate
WHEN: Current
WHERE: Skyhold
NOTES: Political Pandering

[ Courtyard ]

The letters she'd expected more or less. Those from her family she certainly expected. The note from Baron Jean Bonnot less so- but she might as well see if there was anything particularly terrible that was worth mocking in the latest note. When she was asked to sign for something Adelaide grew concerned, but did so. And found herself in the possession of an unwieldy crate stamped with her family crest- at least the courier was kind enough to leave her a crow bar before shuffling off for a hot meal and a quick rest. Stacks of letters in her hands she hasn't even gotten around to reading but this? Needs investigation. She can be found attempting to pry the lid off the crate and failing due to a lack of proper leverage. Assistance would be lovely.

Once open the contents of the Crate are as follows:

  • A small case of horn balm
  • Assorted carvings of Halla
  • Assorted carvings of griffons
  • An hourglass with heavy templar/chantry iconography
  • A set of ornate pens
  • A bagged pipe in Plaidwave
  • An assortment of small bottles of Orlesian Wine
  • Contracts for litters of Mabari from the Lowell family
  • Assorted small fine cheeses
  • A box of assorted chocolates
  • X2 - 1 remaining
  • Assorted stationary & inks
  • Assorted oils for leathers & Polish for armor
  • A tome on Magical Theory
  • A few small bags of coffee beans
  • Maps for the Inquisition & Trade Agreements with the branches of the LeBlanc family
  • Rifter Care Packages containing:

    • Tins of biscuits
    • Packets of bagged tea
    • A written pamphlet 'Welcome to Thedas- a primer' a basic rundown of races, countries, the chantry, some loose and very simplified notations on mages & templars; all biased heavily by Orlesian sentiment.
    • Salve for the aching hand
    • Woolen knit socks
  • A smaller package wrapped separately for Adelaide alone.

Adelaide will spend the remainder of the afternoon distributing the tokens of support from the branches of her family to their intended recipients, Dalish, Vashoth, Qunari, Templar, Mage, Scholar, Rifter, etc. Afterward she will take the case for herself and get a much needed drink to read her letters.

[ Tavern. ]

Once everything is distributed to her satisfaction or at least to the best of her ability, Adelaide spends a well earned evening in the tavern, glass of wine at her elbow, looking over a series of letters from her family and from the Baron, catching up on news of the world beyond Skyhold, why she received a crate of what was effectively sanctioned bribery, and trying to decide if opening that last little case is worth the trouble.

"Of course, darling." She nods to the strapping lad brought over from the stables for just such a purpose. Vivienne's content to leave him to the task while continuing to engage Adelaide. Although once the job's done, she'll slip him a few coins for the trouble.

"It doesn't surprise me that they'd wish to spoil you, my dear. They must truly dote on you to have sent so great a package."

She does rather wonder if they've tucked away a potential suitor; it's a remarkably large crate.

"For me? Well how utterly charming!" Vivienne is not being overly dramatic. She is pleased to be acknowledge and catered to, all the while knowing it's a play in the Game. Adelaide doesn't seem terribly surprised either, though the First Enchanter does hope the poor dear isn't terribly hurt by it.

Her face softens and while she doesn't get physically demonstrative, Vivienne's tone drops into so gentle a modulation it might as well be a light touch on the shoulder. "I couldn't possibly accept unless I've your assurance that there are gifts included to spoil and dote on a beloved daughter." It's tacky for someone to send bribes through their family without seeing to the care and nurture of said family.

Well. Her mother does have something of a point. Adelaide is a lady of station, even if she is not permitted to inherit or hold titles by law. It does reveal a rather curious notion, however. It seems her family is perhaps not convinced the Circles will be restored and that is something to carry quietly in the back of her mind for now.

There is a soft hum from Vivienne and she steps closer, not wishing to be overheard. "There may yet be call for you to have a wardrobe of gowns, my dear. The Inquisition is still in its infancy and if we are to establish it as a power capable of dealing with threats to humanity, we shall have to present ourselves as a respectable organization. Meeting the needs of so many people will demand that we convince the nobility that their coin is well spent with us." Truth be told, Vivienne's rather hoping to convince Adelaide to help her entertain some nobles who still need convincing.

"You do seem rather hurt though, darling. Is there anything I may do for you?"

Vivienne's expression sinks into one of sympathy and understanding. It is difficult enough to engage in the Game when one walks into it willingly. Being thrust forcefully into it must be painfully overwhelming. There was no small amount of truth in what Adelaide said too. She must have thought herself immune and finished with the machinations of the Game when she entered the Circle. And so it would be in most of Thedas. But much has been turned upside down.

"Of course I'll help you, darling. I wouldn't dream of leaving you to flounder and drown in the waters." Some people, she would. Adelaide? Never. And not even for her familial connections.
