And yet Byerly drinks it with some gusto. He's had worse drinks. Hell, he's had worse drinks tonight. Fussiness is a fool's game.

In deference to Isaac's directness, Byerly too is direct. (A rare gift; savor it.)

"Why did you dream all that?"

[wythersake]

"I've no fucking idea." Isaac sets back against the desk. "Ordinarily, it's gardens."

Something like a frown.

"I am often afraid in dreams." (Felt less of it, in this one.) "Isn't it the petty bully who revenges their weakness."

[bouchonne]

"I dream about my teeth falling out."

He pulls back his lips to show off his intact set of pearly whites.

"Are you the bully in this scenario? Taking revenge?"

[wythersake]

"I'm not certain what else you could call strapping to someone to a chair," A vague gesture: Yes, yes, let's skip the sex jokes. "Though I admit to wondering why you wandered in."

[bouchonne]

By cocks his head to the side, genuinely curious.

"Have I given you cause to crave revenge against me?"

He seems neither repentant nor horrified at the thought - just interested.

"Maker, you're not that much of a prick."

"Well, you don't know me that well," By replies, obnoxiously, grinning. Then he offers Isaac a shrug.

"Well, I suppose the key question is whether or not you have sympathy for the Venatori."

[wythersake]

"If I did, I'd have gone already."

Not the most inspiring promise of devotion. Five years with the Inquisition, with Riftwatch, have granted occasion to hand them a Head.

[bouchonne]

"Really?" He asks that easily, casually. Nonjudgmentally. "Even though they're focused on the rights of mages? No sympathy at all?"
