"Thanks."

There's a lingering self-consciousness to Tiffany's smile. She scrapes some dust into a neat pile with the side of her boot.

"That's very kind of you to say. I'm getting the impression that Riftwatch isn't a singing sort of organization, is it."

[altusimperius]

"Not that I'm aware of."

The corner of his mouth twitches upward, then falls again.

"...I don't think I've seen you before." It's something like an awkward prompt for introduction, but there's always the lingering fear that his reputation precedes him.

"Too bad."

She gives a little sigh, a mild regret, and goes back to sweeping. The broom is a rough thing, twig bristles and a blunt handle. The floor isn't all that dirty. The sweeping is more a meditation, even if she continues their conversation.

"Mundane chores are a little more bearable if there's singing. I'm Tiffany." She shoots him a smile. "Theophania Hart. I'm new to Riftwatch, thus me breaking tradition by singing."

"People have done much worse," Bene says as he steps further into the chapel, looking around it curiously. He's been here for, what, three, four years? And there are some rooms that he still hasn't seen yet? That seems a personal failing.

"I'm Benedict," he replies, "um, assistant to Ambassador Rutyer."

[fairforce]

"Oh? He seems," mm, she slows her sweeping, takes a little pause, mostly for the sake of comedy--then continues, "Interesting to work for? Would that be fair?"

[altusimperius]

Benedict can't help but grin, but at least feels a little remorse for it.

"That's fair," he admits, "but it's not bad. I mean. I like it, most of the time."

[fairforce]

She gives a tiny conspiritorial smile back. They're both in on the joke, but it's in good fun.

"It's good to like what you do. Difficult to manage, sometimes, but most of the time sounds a good average. Do you have to deal with guests often?"

[altusimperius]

"Mostly just people coming into the office, which."

He resists a laugh, and it comes out as a bit of a scoff instead, as bewildered as it is amused.

"...gets. Interesting. I can't keep track of every thread of drama, but I feel like I should try."
