There's something to be said for a wife's intuition, and Sidony has known Byerly long enough - as spouse and otherwise - to feel something in the air when he is not quite himself. Sometimes people even give her a nudge, a very gentle one, telling her she ought to check on him, ensure that he's doing well enough, that he's stopped to eat and drink and, often, shower. She is a good and dutiful wife and she makes sure that he is well taken care of, of course she does, but sometimes he is out of reach even for her.
Not tonight, though, and she is quite determined as she strides down familiar corridors, head held high (as it so often is; few here have the power to make her wilt, turn her into a wallflower rather than the queen she regards herself as). Her hair is tied up with a set of new, lovely pins, the kind that she is certain he will not and attempt to use as a distraction, and in her hands weighs a rather lovely bottle of wine, the sort he will love.
Sidony knows him, loves him, adores him, truly, and she knows how best to tiptoe around him for now. She wants to urge the words out of him, wants to urge him to speak his mind and let her share some of his burden, to let her take some of that weight. That's what she wants him to see her as, after all; a wife, yes, but beyond that a friend he can cherish above all else.
There's no hesitation as she slips into his rooms, not bothering to knock beyond a rap of her knuckles against the edge of the door as she walks through. Few people here would dare risk bothering him, after all, and Sidony knows that if he didn't want to see her - or anyone else, she's not blind to his relationships - then the door would be locked and he would be elsewhere.
"Darling," she says it loudly enough that there's no way for him to escape, "come and kiss your wife hello, won't you?"

He takes them. But he does come to sit with her.
"Tell me," he says, his voice a little rough, "of this outing." Because that is something fit to cheer a fellow up. There is no joy to be found in thoughts of this war, or in thoughts of himself. But thoughts of Sidony and her joys might help a bit.

Sidony leans into him almost instantly, settling against his body with a fond smile.
"Oh, it was simply a little picnic with our dear Lady Warden," as if there was any doubt over who she might have decided to picnic with. "We ate food, we talked, made promises, and more. It was quite charming."
