'meet-cute'
anyway. it's very close to the bumping-into-someone-else moment, except at the very last moment-- there's what seems to be a shadowy purple blur from the other side of that pile of books, resolving off to the side, where emet-selch appears to have abruptly relocated. with his own small collection of books still tucked under one arm, he brushes off the sleeve of his coat before glancing at the state of allumin's pile; whether it's a few off the top at the near-miss or the whole damn pile, though, his reaction is the same.]
It is generally advisable not to block one's own view. You ought to count yourself lucky you haven't run into the wall.
[a bit of amusement, there. he's not continuing on his way, but he also is not making a move to help, just leaning against the shelves here.]

Oh, oh that startled me - I didn't know anyone else could do that too! [Somehow he manages to talk through his laughter, half nervous at himself as he tries to calm down and half with joy at not being the only person who can... teleport? Well, it was sort of, wasn't it? Maybe it had been before but was different now in a similar way to his own magic.]
Yes, that's true. Sorry, I, ah, didn't hear anyone else coming so I thought I was clear.
[He kneels down and starts picking up his books and stacking them up again, fixing the pages of any that landed face down before adding them to two, smaller, more reasonably heighted piles carefully balanced across the full length of his forearm and hand.]
no subject
[please be more careful, sir. he just lets allumin deal with the books, though while he watches; this isn't his problem, or at least not his fault.
he adds, though, with a raised brow:]
But did you truly not think someone who had any familiarity with portal and transportation magicks might be capable of something similar?
[portals... not so much, now, but still.]
no subject
[That's the excuse. Really he just didn't appreciate feeling somewhat looked down upon during their last conversation and proceeded to promptly forget it happened so that he wouldn't feel quite as bad about himself. Immature, perhaps, but he is still (very) young by comparison.]
no subject
Regretfully, it does seem more or less impossible here, or else I would certainly make more use of it.
no subject
I haven't gotten too deep in studying up on it yet, but supposedly there is an ancient elven technology that is pretty close to portal magic, if that would be of interest to you. [Having just joined Project Felandaris he has at least seen brief mentions of them and what they are.]
no subject
[which is, well. the ways magic works here can be both interesting and trying, and this is definitely more of the latter.]
no subject
[If someone takes the time to research and restore the stuff, who knows?]
no subject
[conduits, yes, in some cases. anchors. but it's always been natural to him, at least.]
no subject
[It's just a theory but it's all kind of a theory right now, isn't it?]

Emotions and the collective mind can have a negative impact on magic, at least in my experience. Whose to say that it couldn't also be true here? Elves were immortal until humans "infected" them with mortality, for lack of a better way to put it. Why couldn't the fear of demons and the Fade hinder magical prowess and progress?
no subject
But I will allow that I have not known perception to be a hindrance on magical capabilities, in my experience, only one's nature. Any lack of capacity for it tends to be inherent.

[Having been standing there with an armful of too many books, Allumin shifts the stacks over from one arm to another as he speaks. He doesn't necessarily mind having a discussion about this, but wow is it ill-timed.]
Thank you for granting at least some credence to what I've said, though.
no subject
[he's not unaware of allumin's book problem, but also, it's a problem of his own making and emet-selch is content to just let it be. allumin can deal with it if he decides to.]
There are always things magic simply cannot accomplish. Boundaries one cannot infringe upon. Test them, by all means, but once you've found where they lie, they are best left alone.
[there must always be rules governing how it functions.]
no subject
[A beat.]
I should get these to my desk. If you'll excuse me. I apologize again for almost running into you.
no subject
Yes, of course. [he may be excused. there's a hint of amusement there, both for that and the second apology.] I won't keep you from your work any longer.
no subject
I'm sure I will see you around again, may you be well until next time.
[And then he carefully walks around and past Emet-Selch, getting a few strides away before stopping (carefully so as to not lose any books from the halting momentum) and turning around to face him again.]
Are you in a division yet - by the way? If not, I'm certain you'd be a great fit with Research.
no subject
[that touch of amusement in his voice is going absolutely nowhere, as he turns to set his own small collection of books down.]
They are already stuck with me, you see-- and thus I expect you will, in fact, see me around often enough.
no subject
I'll be carrying on then. [He does a rather awkward bend at the knees as a little bow since he is still just precariously holding too many books.]
Enjoy whatever you're working on. [and he turns back around and continues on his merry way.]
