( she offers him her little riftwatch lighter, quite possibly one of her favourite things she's got since arriving, and clinks her glass lightly against his— )

( tsenka is more patient with her mage compatriots than she seems like she might be, at first blush; she is learning to apply some of that to the rest of everyone. or at least some of them. )

[ He accepts the light. Leans in, then leans back and takes an elegant drag. He really does have fine features, beautiful eyes - But he looks so very tired. ]

( there's a kindness that's too knowing to be pity when she leans back, too, shrugging: )

It can be fucking hard, can't it?

( which she might not have said to someone else. but she thinks—

it isn't a weakness to admit it. to someone who looks like he knows, too. )

[ He smiles, half to her and half to himself. ]

And there are so many people who ask - why are you like this? Why can't you just be honest? As though honesty weren't a dearly-bought luxury.

[delphian]

We all pick our moments. The people we want to let see us.

( a quirk of her mouth, )

Hard to remember that, sometimes.

Mmhm.

[ A moment. And then, perhaps weirdly late in this conversation, he admits: ]

I drink too much. I'm trying to stop.

[ And he sets that nearly-untouched glass of whiskey away from him. ]

( some surprise registers, and after a moment's consideration —

she thinks about offering to make him tea, but even if she promises not to try anything, her loft is a little small to avoid being a little intimate, so she proposes: )

Fancy a walk back to the Gallows, then? Cross my heart I've got no unvirtuous intentions.

[bouchonne]

[ A laugh. ]

What makes you so certain I wouldn't take your lovely self up on it if you propositioned me? - You're right, by the by; I wouldn't.

[delphian]

You and your man aren't half subtle, and you aren't half stupid.

( tsenka is not quite generous enough to ascribe great faithfulness to anyone — especially not when she's had great success in the past, insinuating herself where someone's partner rightfully did not want her to be — but, well.

publicly romancing someone you outrank, and then screwing around on them with someone in the same organization?

[ As though they weren't noisy as an alarum. He's grinning. Less facetiously - ]

He's beyond delightful. If you don't know him yet, you should. He'll put up an ordinary front sometimes - seem quite simple and unassuming - but you cannot be fooled by that.

[delphian]

Spoke a little, ( an easy shrug, ) I wouldn't say I know him. Less than I can say I know you, now.

( but she certainly sounds amenable to changing that. )

Well. You'll be so pleased to know him. He has all of my charm, but he's twice as handsome and ten times as clever.
