WHAT: Sam celebrates the 16th quietly with a letter from home. Catching up. Work and lessons as usual.

After First Day it had taken a few days for Sam to pull himself out of the weird rut he had fallen into, what with a variety of good and bad things to start off the year; seeing James and the others from Ostwick, finding out that the First Enchanter and Knight-Commander had been killed, Krem having gone off on a mission, playing in the snow with others, etc. After that Sam seemed like his old self, falling into his usual routine of various lessons, magical and otherwise, as well as work. Even so it seemed like around the middle of the month his attitude took a dip again, appearing when he wasn't actively doing anything or paying attention.

[Magic Lessons]
Lessons sure have gotten more interesting since getting back from Emprise du Lion. Sam is even more determined to progress his training in spirit healing, and the other schools of magic. Even so he still has fun with it, learning to chill his hand without freezing it for the most part, or letting the younger mages 'teach' him how to do spells.

[Sparring: Magic or Melee]
For Sam being efficient in both his magic and his physical strength together or separate were important, both himself and anyone else who might be with him on missions. What little he had learned before Emprise du Lion had certainly saved him rear, so he makes a habit in shadow sparring about every day. Anyone is welcome to give him some pointers or ~~kiss his butt~~ challenge him to a spar.

[Armory]
Without any orders, Sam has been spending less time in the armory, though he still goes in some evenings to practice. Anyone looking to have something made or just wanting to talk where it's warm are more than welcome to join or meet up with him here.

[Tavern]
Even though he isn't a big drinker Sam has been enjoying certain drinks now and again at the tavern since he isn't needed at the armory as much. For the most part he spends his time chatting to various members of the Chargers, or just sitting in their general area, listening to their stories. Otherwise he can be found a the bar, the bartender giving him a look every time he decides to just drink tea instead of alcohol.

[Baking with Christine]
Christine had mentioned that she was starting to bake. Curious to how things were going and wanting to be of some support, Sam figures it would be a nice gesture to show up. Maybe offer a hand to help her with whatever is she is planning on making.

[Sina: This is how you pot (a plant)]
Well Sam had agreed on First Day that he would help with potting and moving plants with her. Even so he hadn't been expecting to be grabbed after magic lessons by the Dalish and getting his hands dirty. Not that he's complaining, but it was unexpected.

[~~Birthday~~ The 16th]
The day before Sam let everyone know that he was planning on taking this day off, that nothing was wrong, but just needed a little time. For the most part Sam takes the chance to sleep in, wasting as much of the morning while he can, and coming out once lunch was being served. It's during his meal that he receives a letter that he tears into with a bit of urgency. Halfway through a small smile spreads across his face, though just as sad as it seems happy. The rest of the day he can be found sitting around watching other in the training ring, taking a walk along the battlements or in the tavern drinking, checking out his letter every so often.

Sina has her hands around the roots of a second plant, and they are conspicuously glowing. Whether it's just her hands showing through the soil or the roots themselves is unclear, but either way, this is probably not how most gardeners would do it.
"You just have to make sure you don't sever any of the roots when you dig it up," she explains. It's MAGIC

"Ah huh..." he mutters lightly, a bit distracted by the glowing going on with the roots and Sina's hands. "Well you certainly make it look easy. Is that," he points a bit at what she's doing, "something anyone can do or is that your fancy Keeper magic?"

"It's a bit of a hybrid," Sina replies, "a little bit keeper magic, a little bit healing. Both are helpful when it comes to tending growing things, although plants of course require different treatment than people."

It was a mixture of both? Interesting. "Alright. So how am I supposed to address this. I've never healed a plant before... or am I just to do it the old fashioned way and just dig far enough so I'm not injuring them?"

Sina considers, then grins, with a light, self-effacing laugh. "You'll probably just have to dig," she confesses.

Sam gives a good humored snort at that, shaking his head lightly. Rolling up his sleeves and taking a moment to look for a shovel, Sam begins a slow process of freeing one of the other plants. "Do you know which ones you're sending where?"

"Let's see," she says, glancing around, "those over there, I want at least one in the smithy and one in the kitchens, if they'll allow it." She gestures to them with one free hand, then at the one she's uprooting now. "I think we should try it with all of them, but we can start with just the couple of samples to get an idea for how they react."

"So... none of these are going to the hot springs?" he asks curiously, half way with digging up the plant he's on. "So you're keeping at least one here of each kind and taking them all over to figure out where they grow best?"

"The hot springs!" Sina repeats, remembering. "Yes, let's bring... the one you're doing. And yes, I want to see what the differences are based on environment."

He's glad that he was able to remind her and help with all this, but at the same time he had just had to say something and give himself more work.

"Which plants are these anyways?" Finally he's managed to get the roots, hopefully without damaging anything.

"Deathroot," Sina says, and glances at him quickly, "at least, that's what the humans call it. It's happiest in the desert, so it hasn't been doing very well here."

At hearing the name, Sam quickly stops digging and turns his head to look at Sina. Not that it was much of an issue, but this kind of plant probably needed a bit more care.

"Well, certainly wouldn't put this in the hot spring area. What else you plan on moving around?"

Oh, you know, just deathroot. It just causes death at the t-- WHOOPS (not really)

"Hm... the blood lotus and spindleweed might do well at the hot spring," she muses, "or if we can create a pond somewhere, even better." Puddles from the constantly falling and melting snow don't count for much.

"Well you could just take some of the water out of the hot spring and make a makeshift pond in the room," he offers, using the back of his wrist to scratch his nose then frowning a bit at the bit of dirt left behind. Great.

"Alright, so move the deathroot first then work on the others." Well this was certainly going to be a bit of a workout.

"...we could do that," Sina muses, "we'll have to build it. And make sure it's waterproof." This is turning into a much larger undertaking than anyone originally envisioned, but surely Sam is up for it! Right Sam??

At some point Sam is going to have to just keep his mouth shut so that he doesn't add more to what they're doing. He's certainly up for making this work and helping which ever way he can.

"We could probably get some brick and mortar from the builders for that. That should be easy enough. Right?"
