WHAT: Sam celebrates the 16th quietly with a letter from home. Catching up. Work and lessons as usual.

After First Day it had taken a few days for Sam to pull himself out of the weird rut he had fallen into, what with a variety of good and bad things to start off the year; seeing James and the others from Ostwick, finding out that the First Enchanter and Knight-Commander had been killed, Krem having gone off on a mission, playing in the snow with others, etc. After that Sam seemed like his old self, falling into his usual routine of various lessons, magical and otherwise, as well as work. Even so it seemed like around the middle of the month his attitude took a dip again, appearing when he wasn't actively doing anything or paying attention.

[Magic Lessons]
Lessons sure have gotten more interesting since getting back from Emprise du Lion. Sam is even more determined to progress his training in spirit healing, and the other schools of magic. Even so he still has fun with it, learning to chill his hand without freezing it for the most part, or letting the younger mages 'teach' him how to do spells.

[Sparring: Magic or Melee]
For Sam being efficient in both his magic and his physical strength together or separate were important, both himself and anyone else who might be with him on missions. What little he had learned before Emprise du Lion had certainly saved him rear, so he makes a habit in shadow sparring about every day. Anyone is welcome to give him some pointers or ~~kiss his butt~~ challenge him to a spar.

[Armory]
Without any orders, Sam has been spending less time in the armory, though he still goes in some evenings to practice. Anyone looking to have something made or just wanting to talk where it's warm are more than welcome to join or meet up with him here.

[Tavern]
Even though he isn't a big drinker Sam has been enjoying certain drinks now and again at the tavern since he isn't needed at the armory as much. For the most part he spends his time chatting to various members of the Chargers, or just sitting in their general area, listening to their stories. Otherwise he can be found a the bar, the bartender giving him a look every time he decides to just drink tea instead of alcohol.

[Baking with Christine]
Christine had mentioned that she was starting to bake. Curious to how things were going and wanting to be of some support, Sam figures it would be a nice gesture to show up. Maybe offer a hand to help her with whatever is she is planning on making.

Well Sam had agreed on First Day that he would help with potting and moving plants with her. Even so he hadn't been expecting to be grabbed after magic lessons by the Dalish and getting his hands dirty. Not that he's complaining, but it was unexpected.

[~~Birthday~~ The 16th]
The day before Sam let everyone know that he was planning on taking this day off, that nothing was wrong, but just needed a little time. For the most part Sam takes the chance to sleep in, wasting as much of the morning while he can, and coming out once lunch was being served. It's during his meal that he receives a letter that he tears into with a bit of urgency. Halfway through a small smile spreads across his face, though just as sad as it seems happy. The rest of the day he can be found sitting around watching other in the training ring, taking a walk along the battlements or in the tavern drinking, checking out his letter every so often.

[Well he knows how to deal with it with magic. He does know some basics with poultices and such as well, but knowing more? Nothing wrong with that.]

Do you use honey for other things?

Of course. There are many ways in which honey can be used to maximize treatment, such as--

[And here Bruce just launches into a whole explanation on honey and its benefits, how to make use of them and the best ways to do so. It's all very informative to people who are interested (and dry to the ones that aren't).]

[At some point Sam has to just stop taking notes, not wanting to fill up his book just about things regarding honey, and honestly he just can't simply keep up. It was just better to listen anyways, and if he ever needed to be reminded he for sure knew who to go to.

It was also rather amusing to see how animated Bruce became just talking about his work. Normally his responses were so short and to the point, or he didn't talk much, so this was a nice change.

Course there was one that Bruce mentioned that had Sam snorting, holding up a hand in apology.]

Sorry. Just... that just reminded me of a weird conversation I had with someone. Being covered in a sticky mess.

[It's one of the rare times anybody can see him this animated, honestly - not many can get to the right points to really get Bruce talking, but his passion for what he does is always evident. If he didn't like it Bruce wouldn't be doing as much as he does, even though this is his job in the Inquisition (or part of it, anyway).

He only pauses when Samouel snorts without warning, and he stops speaking to look at the other curiously - until he realizes how much he was speaking and an apologetic look crosses his face.]

My apologies; I didn't mean to go on for so long. [He gestures towards Sam.] I'd like to hear about this story of yours, if you wish to share it.

No, need to apologize. It was interesting to listen to, and you seemed like you had a lot to say. I did ask.

[Oh jeez, Bruce wanted to hear what the story was? Why did he have to start laughing? Giving a sigh Sam leans his chin in his hand.]

I was talking to a friend and he started telling me about a dream he was having where he was covered head to toe in pudding.

[He can't help it Sam, the way you laughed has his curiosity piqued. Although, hearing the story now Bruce can safely say that this wasn't what he had been expecting.]

Pudding?

[The way he arches up his eyebrow says it all. Just... yep. Pudding.]

[Bruce had expected him to say something about honey, right, since that's what the topic had been about?

At seeing the look Bruce is giving him, Sam chuckles sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. Sorry, Bruce.]

Yeah. Pudding. Like I said... it had been a weird conversation. Now any time I hear 'sticky mess' or 'pudding' I just can't help but laugh a bit.

[Well, Bruce still isn't sure how this relates to anything at all, but if Samouel isn't bothered by it, then well...]

At least it seems like a good one, judging by your laugh.

[Seemed like a good conversation? Sam smiles wider at that, mentally agreeing that anytime he talked with Cyril it was always good. Even if for the most part he was just trying to turn him red.]

Probably because it kind of creeps up on me. Again, sorry for surprising you there like that.

So... after you've mashed all of this in the mortar... what do you do with it?

It's alright. [What's important is that Samouel is fine, which seems to be that way.

As for his question, well...] You store it up and leave it somewhere cold to chill.

[Yeah he's fine. Maybe a case of giggles from time to time though now.]

Well... it's plenty chilly up here so I guess that part is easy.

Is there a specific amount of time it needs to set?

Three hours would be best, but if needed then an hour alone would suffice. [Since sometimes the need for it was pressing.] After that, you're free to use it as you wish.

Does it go bad after a while?

[Potions had a tendency to last for a bit if for some reason they didn't get used, but salves and such had a lower shelf life for the most part.]

Or does keeping it cold help prolong how long you can keep it around?

It does help, but keeping it cold means that it spoils quickly when its under heat.

[So its not something that would be too good for those hotter climates.]

Hm. And how about when it's on the patient? How often would you have to change it, and would heat affect that as well?

Once its on the patient it should be fine. The mix will settle onto the skin and the herbs will do the work. You only need to change it once a day.

Is there a preferred method of wrapping or certain dressings you would suggest to use with this?

Just about anything should work. If that changes though, I'll be sure to let you know.
