WHO: Diplomacy interviewers and interviewees
WHAT: As outlined in this ooc post, Diplomacy members have been asked to interview other members of Riftwatch to gather information so they can have pamphlets written about them.

The Diplomacy office has a rather nice set-up: there are a few comfortable chairs and couches, and the offices themselves are well-supplied with coffee, tea, and drinks of a stronger nature. So, at the very least, the interviewers and their subjects will feel relatively comfortable during their conversation.

If things go according to plan, each interviewer will be set up in the office when their interview subject arrives. Benedict Artemaeus will have opened the door and shown the interviewee inside and will have gotten them a drink of their choice. From there, it falls to the interviewer to ask the first question.

The look Tony receives is Perplexed, but given the choice between pursuing the mill conversation and staying on task, Benedict opts for the latter.

Still, what kind of charity takes a whole mill--

"Will you tell me a bit about the world you're from?"

[propulsion]

"Sure. Let's start small."

Easy sarcasm, but not a complaint. Tony is here and willing and has coffee. "I come from planet Earth," he starts, "and my country of origin is called America. Home to a technologically advanced civilisation that's used scientific knowledge to improve itself without the benefits of magic, and I'd call us maybe four, five centuries ahead of the curve on that front.

"A lot of rifters come from variations of this world," he adds, just throwing it in there. "Usually dealing in similar timescales. But one day we'll write a big book about it, probably, so."

Hand wave. No need to get too deep.

"Do you think there's a reason for it?"

Benedict is writing notes as quickly as he can, brow furrowed in concentration, though it relaxes as he looks up at Tony. "...for there being so people from variations of the same place."

This question wasn't on his list, but he's curious anyway.

[propulsion]

The twitch at his mouth indicates some manner of approval for that question, but doesn't miss too much of a beat before answering.

"Because the same place has a lot of variation," a shrug of his shoulder. "Time travel, multiple realities, decisions splitting off into new timelines. We've seen some of that in Thedas, but let's just say that Earth has a lot of chaotic potential in that area. But," Tony waves his hand, "that's a theory."

[altusimperius]

"Huh."

Benedict pauses a moment to take that in, then writes a note along the lines of what Tony said. He's seen some of this for himself, and hadn't thought it could affect the rifts, but-- that's not why they're here.
Maybe he'll just ask him about it later.

"What's something the Research division is working on now that you're especially excited about?"

[propulsion]

"Defeating Corypheus and his forces of evil," Tony rattles out, dry affect. "That's gonna be a biggie."

[altusimperius]

"Well, sure." A little smirk of amusement twitches onto Bene's face, and he holds off writing anything down. "I think that's what we're all working on. I was hoping for something a bit smaller scale." You know, nerd stuff.

[propulsion]

"Yeah, but, my division's gonna win."

It's a competition.

"Unfortunately," a wriggle of his fingers, "we're not a toy shop, as much as I'd like to pretend we are. I can't have published what I'm most excited about working on 'cause if anybody's gonna know about giant floating sky-ships, I'd prefer they do it 'cause they're standing underneath 'em and not, like, in a pamphlet."

Tony brings his coffee up to sip from, then lowers it, and says, "Dessert coffee. You can tease that one."

[altusimperius]

"Dessert coffee," Benedict repeats, his enthusiasm clear as he writes it down, "that sounds like it could save the world all by itself."

[propulsion]

"I'd settle for it making us rich," Tony says, with a languid gesture. Satisfied with that response, settled back in his chair. "But maybe we can win some hearts and minds in Minrathous by way of venti hazelnut soy milk latte-cinos. Stranger things."

[altusimperius]

"Venti... soy... latt-ay-- what is that? It sounds Antivan."

He pauses writing to look skeptically up at Tony.
