"Um?"

Benedict peers at her, narrow-eyed and suspicious, not a trace of jest in his tone.

"Can I help you?"

Even with that look Benedict's giving her, a little of the tension leaves Clarisse's shoulders. She can handle him.

"Nope. Move along." There we go. Handled.

And before he can say anything else, she's walking into her office and heading straight for the desk.

His little incredulous gasp is punctuated by Clarisse walking through the door, but he doesn't let her get away with it-- he follows after her, putting his hand out in warning.

"Get out," he growls, his palm beginning to glow slightly.

Clarisse figured this would happen, but it still makes her stomach hurt with that mingled anger and sadness she's so used to feeling when someone doesn't believe her.

"You really want to go there, Benedict?" She's watching his outstretched hand, but she doesn't back off.
altusimperius: (doubt)

"We're already there," he snaps-- perhaps it's the use of his name that settles it, but he won't be spoken to in this way, not by a total stranger.

He casts Paralysis, intending to freeze Clarisse in place as he comes into the office and past her to the desk.
"Ask me how I know you don't have Ellie's permission to be here," he drawls, putting his hands on its surface to glare at her, "oh-- never mind. You can't."

Clarisse struggles to so much as twitch a fingertip, but it's no use. Feels like her body is numb, being held in place by some invisible weight.

"Ellie hasn't been here for half a year."

After all these months, it still hurts hearing her name like that. Maybe it's because of the way Benedict's talking about her. Like she's still here somewhere, just stepped away for a bit.

"What would you know about that," Benedict snips, glancing down at the desk; what could she be looking for, to break into the office? He scans over the documents sitting there, and Clarisse has a good view of the confusion that crosses his face when he sees an unfamiliar name.

He mouths 'Clarisse', questioning, and picks up a document to see it better. what
laruetheday: i'm just really worked up. (sorry i said 'bitches'.)

"I know everything about that," she says through gritted teeth. And she'd add more, but she can tell that Benedict is reading her own name on the paper he's holding.

"Not Ellie, is it?"

"Shut up," he mutters, glancing darkly up at the stranger and, after a moment's deliberation, deciding she's clearly in on whatever's going on here.

Removing the cloth belt from around his tunic, he comes back around the desk to begin hurriedly tying Clarisse's hands behind her back, knowing he only has a little more time before the spell wears off.

"Whatever nonsense you're up to," he continues brusquely, "nobody's in the mood for it."

There. She feels it just as Benedict comes back around the desk—a twitch of her fingertips, the sensation rushing back in. She doesn't know if he's underestimated her, made a mistake, if it's demigod strength, or some combination of more than one of those, but she's not planning on sticking around to find out.

"The only nonsense happening is you all ignoring what's right in front of you," Clarisse says. As Benedict comes around behind her and starts wrapping the belt around her wrists, she shoves him backwards as hard as she can with both hands. If she really wanted to make him stay down, she could, but Clarisse isn't interested in fighting Benedict right now. She just wants to get out of here. She's already seen what she needed to see.

She takes off down the hallway before he has a chance to come after her again.

"Ignoring?" he scoffs, and is prepared to continue his monologue when, instead, he receives a violent shove from the person he thought he'd incapacitated.
Note to self: invest in a timer for these things.

The sound he makes is somewhere between a gasp and a yelp as he hits the wall, and Clarisse is well out of the room by the time he rolls onto his stomach and shouts an alarm into his crystal.
