"Oh. Yeah, fair enough." Barrow talks with his mouth full but at least, blessedly, tries to keep it closed while doing so. Taking a glance at the book, he nods. Yep, the dissonant verses. That's a thing.

"Just Barrow's fine," he says idly, after swallowing, "I see my reputation precedes me." This also isn't the first of the strangers to have known his name before he knew them, so there's that.

"You have been on my list of people to speak with since I arrived," Bastien says, returning his eyes to the pages of the book, "but you were very hard to find."

The only way Barrow might ever be hard to find is if he were running away from someone. Which is exactly what Bastien means to imply, glancing up with a humorless sort of got you now glint in his eye.

"I suppose being completely forgotten has some benefits."

“Ah? Yeah?”

He keeps his demeanor easy, even as the slightest twitch of discomfort wrinkles over his brow.

“Whys’at?” He takes another bite, “speaking to me, that is.”

The key is not to act guilty.
