The first thing Bethany did after arriving at Skyhold?
A bath. A beautiful, long hot bath where she soaked with nice soap and some sort of fancy oil and just ... cleansed herself from about a week's worth of sand and dirt. After that though, well.
Bethany used to be the sort of person who would keep to the edges to not be noticed. Kept herself hidden, to keep herself from being taken to a Circle. Her family went through such risks to keep her free - keeping her head down seemed to be a small sacrifice to make.
Now, nine years - almost ten! - years a Warden and she still observed quietly from the background. Yet now, she would step forward. Move more boldly, with more confidence and a great deal more poise. She also, as she had been apt to do even in her days in Kirkwall, stopped to help people.
So there you will find her, all around Skyhold, quietly soaking up everything, or chatting happily with someone as she helps them carry firewood or food out to the hungry troops training in the yard. The first thing you will know is that smile - dimples and bright, and completely unfeigned. Who knows, maybe it's just pointing at you.

She winked.
"Really, none of them? You poor thing. We're going to have to change that one of these days."

And she dimpled. She always loved how Isabela was always so - herself. Even if she was shocking to a good Chantry girl like Bethany.
"I have Carver, and I have Nathaniel. Nathaniel wants to make sure I'm not giving my heart away and Carver ... really has problems with me giving anything away. I think they've scared away all decent prospects for over a decade. If you can get past them -- I'll buy you all the drinks you want."
Another warm smile, before she hooked her arm through Isabela's. "Besides, you know how it is -- Marian was the one everyone wanted." Not a hint of jealousy there, just fact.

"Look, kitten, you're all grown up. Don't waste your time letting men tell you what you can and can't do. Decide what you want, and then go after it, full speed ahead. But I can help grease the wheels, if you like." She winked again.
"Kitten, you're adorable. There's no one who wouldn't want you."

That comment though, caught Bethany and she stopped for a moment. Something flashed through her brown eyes, before she nodded her head once. "You know Isabela, you are absolutely right. And if I am going to die - sooner rather than later - I want to take control of this."
Although she is wary at the offer. "... Just what kind of grease, pirate queen?"
She dimpled at that. "I can name a few names, but I know I'm attractive." Then with a straight face, she gestured to her bosum. "Besides, I have these."
no subject
"Girl's best friends, believe you me," she said with a wink, her own ponderous bosom on display.
"But, I could test the waters, maybe send a few you like up to your chambers. I doubt they'd say no, given the offer. Or, I could always help initiate you myself. Show you those six things I told you about once."
She took a long drink.
"In any case, of course I'm right. If I just let men tell me what they wanted me to do, I'd probably have Josephine's job by now."
no subject
She blinked at that offer, before she flushed red and then laughed. "First of all, I'd like them to come and talk to me first. Maybe have a few drinks? Second of all, your six things terrify me because you have never told me what they are." She poked Isabela in the side. "Not to mention that my sister would go rabid."
She looked thoughtful, before she reached for Isabela's flask and took a swig. She made a face, "Maker, that's awful. Come on, let's go to the Herald's Rest and get something decent."

"But, sometimes it's good to face your fears, and damn what anyone else tells you. I wouldn't be an admiral today if I didn't."
no subject
Her lips twitch up at the corners. "Well, best way I can face these fears is for you to tell me what the six things are - or find a nice man to buy us our drinks."
no subject
She led her inside, and signaled the dwarf behind the bar.
"As for the six things... Well. To start... You know, men only have one pair of lips to kiss. A woman has three."
