[ Victory, for Merrill, has always meant that the people they were meant to help and defend were safe, whether they were refugees or mages or her group of friends. As long as no one has been too seriously hurt, all of them have tasted sweet. This latest, though, is particularly good: the three dragons that had caused so much harm and scared so many in the Emprise have been defeated, and Merrill was able to help in the takedown of one.

She'd had ideas, good ideas. She'd been listened to. Magic and blades and mabari teeth had all flashed and sang and the dragon had fallen, and where Merrill isn't exactly known to make a ruckus, it makes her happy enough that she can be found celebrating -- at the tavern, because it had been insisted upon, but there's also some delighted humming and skipping through camp. This continues as Merrill starts on her journey back to Skyhold, ready for an adventure of a different sort; she's more than happy to chat with others on the road, or help if they need help.

In Skyhold itself, she can be seen with a little mongrel pup following at her heels. She is, if anything, a bit more subdued in the fortress; when she manages to navigate the twisting halls, she tends to be found in the library, trying to find anything and anything related to her people and to magic. It's a slow process, not in the least helped by her abysmal sense of direction or her willingness to be distracted by her dog, the weather, particularly nice stone work, and anyone who looks interesting. ]

"I suppose you could write them all a letter? Or- I think maybe the ambassador would be the one to get the builders and everything, so perhaps it would just go to her?"

Humans, please stop being so damn confusing. "But I suppose if you wrote it to all of them, they would give it to whoever it was actually supposed to go to." Or throw it out.

He's just as confused by this as you are - was this a human thing?

"I'll play it by ear. This mustn't be something that only the two of us have thought about. Can always listen around to see if something is already in the works." Paperwork is a pain, and he's sure the advisors have plenty of it.

"And ask! That's a good way to hear things, too."

Yes, thank you for that advice Merrill. "Maybe some of the builders already working have heard about plans, or the quartermaster about supplies!"

Yes, thank you for the advice, Merrill. The cheerful way she says things and looks to the future is rather refreshing. "Yes, I'll ask around as well. I'm sure they'd be more inclined to talk to you more though. Especially with this pile of fluff trailing behind you."

There's a slight laugh, Merrill crouching down now to scoop up Barkley. He immediately tries to reach over to lick Garris in the face. "Oh, depends entirely on who it is! You could always get your own dog, though, if you think it would help."

Barkley is cute, but not cute enough for him to stand still to have a tongue lapped over his face, particularly his mouth - he's not that desperate for a kiss.

"That is something to consider, but I'm alright with not having a dog. That's a bit more responsibility I want to worry about at the time."

The denial makes the pup struggle all the more, which in turn makes Merrill laugh as she tries to hold onto him. "Well, you can borrow him if you ever need some fluffy help! He quite likes people."

Rather like his owner.

[middle_of_calibrating]

The struggle only has Garris putting up a hand to block the advance, rather to have that attacked than his face, though his nose does wrinkle a bit when he feels the furry beast eagerly lap at his hand. "I will keep that in mind. Thank you, Merrill."

He continues to make a face even when the pup has calmed down, but he doesn't look overly upset by it. "I'll talk around and let you know if I hear anything. See you later then?"

Barkley, pleased at having gotten to express his affection, wriggles even more violently. He's set down before he's accidentally dropped, happily chasing his own tail once he's on the ground. Ridiculous.

"Oh, you're very welcome! And yes, I'll be around. Barkley, too."
