The Orlesian tailors arrived in great state, bringing with them a cadre of servants, workers, and snotty attitudes. They hate everything. It is cold in Skyhold. It is damp. Everything smells of wet dog. The working conditions are abysmal. The food is criminal. There's not a damned thing they don't complain about, except for the piles of coin they stand to make from this soiree. Yes, they are more than content to build a fortune with exclusive work that will be seen by some of the aristocracy's finest.

Harritt apparently doesn't much like them either. They've taken over his Undercroft with their fabrics and threads, designs and opinions. Oh they have opinions. He stays to one corner, attending his work, and grumbling under his breath about the poncy cheesesniffers.

"Smile, nod, and have an idea of what colors look best on you. If something looks or feels truly offensive, scowl." Adelaide murmurs from where she waits at Korrin's side, eyes flicking over garments and silk and the almost frantic measuring and pinning of the tailors. "Wine after?"
gatheringstorm: (so drunk)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-05 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, please. I've been listening to them complain about Kaisa's raging audacity in being that tall and broad. If that's what they think of her, they're going to love me even less." And it's easy not to give a shit when she doesn't have to deal with them, but being forced to listen to them when she can't do anything, even leave, that will be a true test of her temper.
fleurdesel: left, smile, smirk, sarcastic (but I don't agree)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-06 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
"They'll have to prepare something for you from scratch." The idea is as amusing as it is wearying. "As they are being paid you think they'd quit complaining about being given such illustrious work."
gatheringstorm: (listening)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-06 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Either they'll complain non-stop or it'll be all about 'taming the savage qunari' with the latest Orlesian fashion. I'm not sure which is worse." Neither are great prospects so yes, that wine will definitely be appreciated and consumed as soon as possible. "I have no idea what I even want yet, other than I promised I'd at least consider something other than actual armor. What about you?"
fleurdesel: left, smile, smirk, confused, sarcastic (The punchline is...?)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-06 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
"I do not know how well my family's name holds up against Vivienne's, but I will see if I cannot throw a little weight around and keep them quiet." She has the ability, now, she might as well use it. "Well. Let us break it down into the simplest components. Do you wish to be able to move easily, do you wish to accentuate your arms or your bust or your legs, what colors do you care for, how many layers are you comfortable wearing. For myself...I am frankly terrible with this but they might know of my mother enough to have an idea as to what LeLBancs usually wear."
gatheringstorm: (soft smile)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-06 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Korrin shoots Adelaide a grateful look at that, not about to shoot down any chance at toning down those insufferable tailors. "Thank you, Adelaide. This day is going to be long enough without them adding to it. I'll take whatever help I can get when it comes to their nonsense. And movement is essential; maybe it won't turn into a literal battlefield, but I still want to be ready if it does, you know? Not clomping around in something I can barely breathe in, ugh. Sleeves are a no, if I can help it. They're usually too tight or ridiculous or both on me."

She's also not unaware that her toned arms are nice to look at, so why hide them? "What do LeBlancs usually wear, then? Do they also favor white, or are there specific family colors?"
fleurdesel: right, smirk, smile, serious (Not certain just yet)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-06 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Sleeveless, fitted in the bodice but not restrictive, in whatever colors compliment you best." And with that they have a rough idea as to what Korrin might say to guide the discussion with the tailors. It isn't perfect but it is simple. "Blues, golds, and white. LeBlanc does mean 'The White' after all. Playing too heavily on it might be a bit on the nose but as long as I am not caught up in overly long sleeves or complicated skirts? I can work with most everything. I suspect Vivienne will want some input. I've gowns but none are quite 'enough' apparently."
gatheringstorm: (um....)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-06 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Simple is good. Korrin doesn't want to be bogged down with too much, since there's every chance her temper would get the better of her and she'd forget it all anyway. She nods, filing all that away for when it's her turn. Part of her almost hopes that's soon, just so she can get it over with.

"I'm almost afraid to imagine what counts as 'enough' for Orlesian fashion; it sounds like something that would compromise freedom of movement far too much. I know, that's probably not 'fashionable' but standing around like a doll because you're afraid to move just sounds so boring." She rolls her eyes, then looks over Adelaide. "As long as they're not 'could hide a small child in here and you'd never know' sleeves, they'd probably still suit you. I don't actually mind sleeves either, but the South sees too few of my people for tailors to ever know what to do with, so I don't bother. Less hassle on both ends."
fleurdesel: left, smile, smirk, sarcastic (but I don't agree)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-07 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Corsets, stays, bodices, full skirts, brocade, embroidery, and miles upon miles of chiffon- and this is what I recall from when I was eight. It may have become more or less since." She waves a vague hand. "They'll sort it out one way or another. Maker knows we have time."

More than enough, truly.

"As long as I am able to cast without getting tangled in them? I'm fine. Anything more feels excessive- though I cannot quite carry the 'sleeveless' look quite so well as you might." Toned arms are not exactly in Adelaide's wheelhouse.
gatheringstorm: (wry smile)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-07 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Korrin grimaces at Adelaide's list of fashion requirements for the nobility, not at all surprised but still objecting strenuously when it comes to herself. She darts the tailors a 'don't you dare' look, not wanting them to get any ideas from overhearing the two mages. She'll play along enough to wear something presentable at the soiree, but that's asking far too much.

Adelaide's last comment gets a brief grin directed her way, as Korrin isn't about to deny her attributes. "You can better get away with sleeves, though. You're the right size and shape, so they know exactly what to do with you. If they've catered to any of my kind on a regular basis, I'll be much surprised."
fleurdesel: left, smile, smirk, confused, sarcastic (The punchline is...?)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-07 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Make a point that you wish to be powerful and imposing. Work with your height and your figure- it might give them more to work with other than 'not that, not that, Maker above not that'." Which will be the bulk of Adelaide's directions to the tailors as they flit and flounce about. "...I truly ought to have checked in with my escort for the evening- be certain of what it is he will be wearing so I might contrast him appropriately- ah. Something else for you to consider: What is Araceli going to wear?"
gatheringstorm: (curious)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-07 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Powerful and imposing...I can work with that." Korrin smirks a bit, glad to give those tailors more direction. hopefully the sooner to get them off her back and focusing on someone else's faults. "She's thinking of a pale blue dress, though I don't want to match that exactly. Pale blue doesn't do me any favors, and--wait, who's your escort?"
fleurdesel: left, sad, smile, serious (I just don't know)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-08 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
"How do you feel about crimson? They contrast nicely." Sleeveless, red, fitted bodice- it'd be remarkable to see. "You would make a most striking pair in that case."

Crimson or gold, now that she thought on it. "Mm? Ah, Martel. One of the rifters- he is a dear friend to me. Which is...something of a surprise considering how we met."
gatheringstorm: (intrigued)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-08 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Hm...highever weave? I always liked that fabric." She has it accenting her dragon armor, though a chance to wear it in something less martial would be interesting. The name of Martel gets a vague nod of recognition, though she's never spoken to him one-on-one. "Oh? Why is that?"
fleurdesel: left, smile, smirk, sarcastic (I'm sorry)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-08 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
"He grabbed me by the throat when I attempted to brush his medallion out of the way to heal a wound on his chest." Offhand, easy, without the same tense fear with which she'd spoken of the same threat from Unger. "Held, more like, as he did not actually squeeze. It was distressing none the less. We've...moved past that."
gatheringstorm: (um....)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-08 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
All thoughts of fabric and colors is forgotten as Korrin stares in horror at Adelaide's tale. Now that she knows what want on at the White Spire, the image is even more horrific. There's a flash of temper in her eyes, and it's undoubtedly a good thing Martel isn't there at this very moment, but she refrains from losing it or her volume control. "Good, because he and I would have problems otherwise. As long as you're alright now...."
fleurdesel: left, sad, smile, serious (I just don't know)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-08 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
Adelaide reaches up to rest a hand against Korrin's shoulder. "We have moved past it. I did not expect to do so but- it has been months and he has since proven himself trustworthy. Consider, also, that he'd been impaled by a large sword before falling through. I cannot blame him for being out of sorts."

Maker knows she would be if it ever happened to he and she woke more or less whole and hearty afterward.
gatheringstorm: (alarmed)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-08 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The tension begins to leave Korrin's frame and she nods slowly, listening to this unlikely turn of events. "Andraste's ass...alright, I suppose I can't either. That's some spectacular timing, to have the rift be responsible for saving his life, more or less."
fleurdesel: right, serious, confused, angry (puzzled)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-09 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
"A fantastic coincidence." Or an awful one. She's not about to question either, now that she knows the story. Nor is it hers to share. "You should find something to use to decorate your horns- perhaps braid into your hair as well. That would be lovely."
gatheringstorm: (horns)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-09 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Turning her thoughts back to the soiree, Korrin nods as her mind is along the same lines. "I have horn sheathes; I just usually forget to wear them. Or maybe I'll get new ones made. I still have more silverite from Emprise du Lion than I'll ever know what to do with."
fleurdesel: center, smirk, smile, sarcastic (And I'm still right.)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-11 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Now that would make a statement. The nobility of Orlais haven't often seen people like you- it'll dazzle them." More than enough that they might keep their unkind thoughts to themselves.
gatheringstorm: (smug)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-11 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
"If it dazzles them away from saying the usual shit I hear, I'll consider it a victory. Not that it'll ruin my night if they do, I'm more interested in dazzling someone else." Her grin leaves no doubt as to who, of course. Those nobles can side-eye her all they want; it won't matter as long as she has plenty of dances with Leliana's new 'Antivan' bard. "I'm sure she'll be dancing with everyone she can, though, and so will I. So, save one for me."
fleurdesel: center, laugh, smile, smirk, sarcastic (....bullshit)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-11 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Can you imagine their faces? Word would get back to my family, no doubt." She considers it for a moment before shaking her head, smile curving on her lips. "Why not? They gave up their right to judge almost three decades ago. I will be pleased to share a dance with you, Rinot."
gatheringstorm: (amused)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-03-11 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Korrin flashes a grin at that, then feigns horror. "The elegant Orlesian noblewoman, dancing with a 'savage Qunari'? How will you ever overcome the scandal of it all?"
fleurdesel: left, smile, smirk, sarcastic (I'm sorry)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-03-12 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"If I am fortunate? I won't." She is a mage and as such the company she keeps? Is hers to mind and hers alone. Even if she ought to do a better job of minding them.
