Seriously, though. Why horses? He's tried to tell himself they're no different than what he knows, but there are still differences from the chocobos that he's used to. Kain isn't entirely at ease around them just yet. So he's taken it in mind that he needs some riding practice.

He spends a little time thoughtfully eyeing the dracolisks that are there, he definitely has a curiosity about them given their appearance.

But for now, it's a standard horse. His style of riding was all learned on a bird so it's evident he doesn't quite know what he's doing as he rides a bit wildly around Skyhold.

Training Grounds

Pushing himself to get stronger is the only answer after what happened out the Western Approach. They'd met their main objective... but even still, Kain is beyond frustrated with himself, feeling a great deal of guilt over what happened. So, training. He gets to the grounds anyway, but even after he starts in with a jump, he lands and grimaces... Ugh, no, while it's improved for regular activity, his leg really isn't ready for anything like that. Whoops.

Library

Even after a good couple months here, Kain has realized he... still has a lot to learn about this world. Now is as good a time as any. So he's busy glancing through various books that catch his interest. Of course, it's noticeable that most of the titles in his stack are about dragons.

Tower/Battlements

By now, Kain has a usual spot he likes going to up along the battlements, a place with a great view of the mountains surrounding Skyhold. He often comes here to just think or get some solitude. At the moment, he's seated, staring off into the surroundings, a dragon scale in hand.

Kain can stand as straight as he likes, it still doesn't impress the woman who's nearly a foot taller than him. And spotting that pained look easily, she narrows her eyes. "The hell it isn't."

She walks over and gives the leg a kick. Well, more like a tap. But given his current state, she suspects it'll feel like one to him. "'Nothing', huh?"

"Wha- Ahhhh!!! Ow, why would you do that?" Kain glares at her, hopping back a couple steps, grumbling curses under his breath. He picks it off the ground for a moment, balancing on the other leg. "It was nothing until you did that!" He looks up at her, reminded in that moment just how strange it feels to have someone tower over him like that. It's not something he generally gets to experience.

Korrin doesn't look terribly apologetic, lips thinning as she shakes her head. "Bullshit. I just tapped it and looked what happened. How the hell did you survive as a soldier back where you're from if you didn't learn to rest up or heal up first?"

"But it has been healed up, this is just... a little residual soreness. The healer who saw to it knew what he was doing." Ok, he was perhaps supposed to go easy on it for a little longer yet, to be sure it got back to full strength. But he couldn't help trying to get out there and jump around, because he's him. Kain get very impatient when waiting to resume his normal training.

He shakes his head. "I survived just fine, even if the white mages could be aggravating sometimes with their nagging."

"I'm not going to nag. I'm not your mother or a white mage. But if you slow us down because you didn't let yourself heal, expect me to get in your face about it. It's not just your ass out there, it's all of ours. Understood?" Korrin will loom just a little, hoping he gets the point.

"Nor would I mistake you for either." Kain really, really isn't used to someone looming at him in such an intimidating way. He doesn't let it bother him, though, clenching his fists as he stiffens his stance. His reaction is never to cower away, but to meet any threats head-on. "Trust me, I can handle myself out there just fine. You've nothing to worry about."

Oh, he's had this conversation so many times, both home and in the war... and now here. It was only a matter of time, really.

"Good. I've have worked with too many other mercenaries who did the 'I can walk it off' song and dance. Those people never lasted. Either they got themselves killed or crippled themselves making a bad situation even worse." And given Kain's skill in battle, she'd hate to see either fate befall him.

"But I can walk it off. Usually." Unless of course it makes him literally not able to walk well, like this injury had during the worst of it. Anything else, he can generally push through until he drops. Not that Korrin probably wants to hear about all of that. But he's well used to fighting despite pain. "I'm far from weak, after all. I've come back from far worse."

"Not in this world, though." Korrin knows telling him to take it easy will fall on deaf ears, but if he tries jumping with that leg again, she might be tempted to give it another 'kick' just to keep proving her point. And because being immature is fun. For now, she'll just gesture to that potion. "So, tell me more about what happened in the Western Approach. Will the Inquisition still need to go there?"

"We'll see about that." It's not like Kain is reckless on purpose, exactly, but sometimes you have to take risks out there. Sometimes they pay off greatly. Sometimes. He's definitely gotten worse about this since the gods' war. Anyway. Kain is trying to ignore the potion, but Korrin isn't making that easy. He sincerely hopes this won't be a repeat of the Tifa potion-splashing incident.

"...Yes. Yes, we will need to return." Kain is abrupt in his answer, not entirely pleased that one of theirs had been captured. An important figure among the Wardens at that. Will it be too late by the time the Inquisition returns to save him? Or... well who knows? Sigh. "The main point is, we achieved our goal. Erimond is captured." Ok, he said that already but. Yeah.

"But...? There's more, isn't there. If it's going to affect us, I'd like to know." Korrin hasn't actually had the chance to inquire about specifics as to the mission, distracted with other affairs. But now that she has the attention of one who departed on it, she might as well find out more.

"Well, it looks like we'll have to attempt a rescue mission, for one. And I'm sure there's plenty more of what we fought, demons and blood mages alike." None of it is pleasant at all, and he's not looking forward to returning to that boiling hot desert. At the same time, he's him and getting out there and launching an assault is exactly what he wants most. He needs to train harder to be ready, though.

That news has Korrin frowning as she crosses her arms, not liking the sound of that at all. "Demons and blood magic...well, shit. Two of my least favorite things, and now I'm sure you know why. But leaving someone to that isn't something I'd wish on anyone. So, who do we have to save?"

Kain grimaces a little, shifting more to his better leg, but he largely tries to ignore it while he reports on the facts of what happened. "Hercules of the Grey Wardens... he was stuck on the other side of the enemy... there was no chance of getting to him..." That and some members had been too wounded to continue like himself, but Kain hates recalling that he could barely walk at that point, ugh. He sighs. "We'll return soon enough for him though. If only it had been sooner."

Hercules...Korrin nods in recognition, sighing deeply. "I've never spoken to him, but a veteran Grey Warden deserves better than that. I know my way around the Western Approach, too, so if more are needed to retrieve him, I can sign up. Now that the quarry has been taken care of, I can turn my focus elsewhere."

"Right... and I intend to join as well. The Western Approach will be in need of our forces. That's why I'm out here... I'm preparing." Kain thinks about the enemies they'd faced, not to mention the harsh environment. It's going to be a tough one when the time comes for it, but he'll be ready, he's determined.

Korrin's expression softens a little at that, understanding well the drive to rescue a battle companion. "I see. Your preparation makes sense, and I won't stop you from doing what you must. Just try to keep from jumping for the time being; it sounds like we'll be in need of that at the Western Approach."

With a grimace, Kain realizes he should suck it up and take the potion, despite his stubborn need to show he doesn't need it. He does, though. He really ought to sit down a bit too, take it easy for a moment. Sigh. Not that he wants to...

"Trust me, I don't intend to fail again. I'll be stronger. Against the likes of those demons out there, I'll need to be..." He finally gets as far as opening the potion at least.
