Truth or Dare: The Imperial Court
WHO: Select Orlesian and Fereldan Nobility and the Inquisition
WHAT: Josephine and Vivienne have orchestrated a good-will soiree in response to this dastardly rumor.
WHEN: Drakonis 15, Evening
WHERE: Skyhold Great Hall
NOTES:
- A list of nobles in attendance can be found here. The list was provided by the mods but there will be no npc support for them. Play away.
- A secondary outside party is being held in the valley in the tent town for anyone who couldn't/wouldn't attend and/or behave in the fancy pansty party.
- The goal of the evening is to clear up a spurious rumor about Cassandra and Leliana, with secondary goals of establishing the Inquisition as a respectable presence in Thedas (and fish for more money). Any major disruptions that would Game Over the court approval should probably be brought to the advisors and/or mods.
To say that Josphine has far outdone herself with this little soiree would be the understatement of the year. The Lady Ambassador has pulled out all the stops in providing a festive and yet elegant stage for this political intervention. Because sometimes gossip can be more deadly than a sword.
The Great Hall of Skyhold has been converted into a grand receiving hall, glittering with hundreds of lights around the room, in addition to the repairs accomplished to the original chandeliers. Of course, there has been artful placement arranged so there are a few shadowy corners for rendezvous of the more suggestive nature. Just in case. The majority of the floor has been cleared for dancing, and a fine troupe of musicians have been installed for the bulk of the evening's entertainments. Some members of the Inquisition have plans to entice attendees with their own artistic performances in addition to the group of mages performing illusory tricks to oohs and aahs.
For those who feel their energy flagging, there are chairs set against the walls, with a few tables interspersed between. Servers hired for the evening circulate the crowds with wine, fine Orlesian and Nevarran reds as well as crisp whites from Antiva. Refreshments are set out on buffet tables, tasteful and extravagant nibbles, including imported cheeses, spicy saucisson, dried fruits and nuts, and the highly sought after deep mushroom and anise petits fours that are all the rage in Orlais.

Yet. Night's still young.
"I know you were expecting Jayne to come if you whistled but I was in the area and thought to myself 'Maybe she's got time for a dance'. Here I'm think'n you do, and you probably wouldn't mind all that much if I danced you right out to where the real party is. No masks." He'd noticed how her eyes lingered and the tension it put in her shoulders. "Even if some of 'em probably really should spare us their powerful ugly faces."
no subject
She's a little surprised that he'd been able to tell how she feels about those masks, but she doesn't comment on it. She only smiles, a good deal of that tension slipping away as she breathes a bit easier. "Those are the two best words I've heard all night. How far are you going to make me dance?"
no subject
"Ditch the lady and the work, come have fun. I got a spare coat if you get cold."
no subject
"That's very sweet," she says, though she still hesitates. She looks around, wanting to make sure that no one is watching or judging them. She doesn't much care for herself, but she'd hate for this to reflect poorly on Adelaide, even if she had gone above and beyond when it came to interacting with the other guests.
"I suppose no one would miss me too badly if I nipped out for a little while." Offering Mal her hand, she adds, "Though it's not ditching work. It's... taking a break."

From everyone flitting about. How she could stand it with a smile amazes him in no small way, but she's likely to be more patient with these folk than him. The music kicks up, his hand rests light on her waist, beat tapped out easy on her fingers where he holds them, and off they go in a light, quick path through the spinning crowd to the door. Just like he said.

Despite the light-hearted commentary as she braces her free hand on his shoulder, Hermione is actually a bit nervous about dancing. Some of the dances she's seen have been familiar, but there are a few that look a bit too antiquated for her; luckily, Mal doesn't seem to go in for anything but a simple sort of dance, which she greatly appreciates. She appreciates it even more when she realizes he really is waltzing her right towards the door, even if she looks mildly surprised. "You're a man of your word. What a novelty."

Between the song and the steps, it's mighty simple. Keep to the beat, don't bump into no one, skirt around the edge of the room till they find the door. It's almost like he's done this before. (he's done this before).
More than once.
Hey if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
"When Captain Reynolds says he's gonna do a thing, thing gets done."
no subject
Right now, Hermione's just failing miserably at keeping back a smile, especially as the door is looming ever-closer.
"Captain, is it? Is evading stuffy soirees a vital part of military training?" Because really, given how virtually everyone in Thedas is at war, she can only assume any such title would have to be military-based.
no subject
Here's hoping they don't end up causing a scene before they hit the door. "Hermione's a bit of a mouthfull. Can't rightly call you 'Hermi' or 'mione', gimme some time. I'll think of somth'n else that'll stick.
A beat, another turn. "Well Captain of a ship, truly. My solder'n days are long behind me. Shipping business, though, gotta sneak in and out of fancy places to talk to folk plenty in that work."
no subject
Wrinkling her nose a little despite the smile still on her face, Hermione requests, "Please don't. Ron calls me 'mione sometimes, and it sounds weird coming from him, much less from anyone else. I'm perfectly content with my own name, thank you." Or whatever nickname Malcolm feels the need to organically come up with, if she must.
Intrigued by this tidbit about his past, she asks, "Is that what you'd meant to do now? Sneak in and disappear once business was done? Should I leave you to do that, then?"
no subject
It'll take some time and some watching, but it'll come to him.
"Business has come and gone, actually. Already met up with my contact, got a new shipment on the way good and proper. This here? is me sneak'n out. I'm just doing it in the company of someone that needs a hand finding her own exit." Ain't nothing wrong with that.
no subject
"And you don't think I'd trip over my own dress and foil your escape plan? I'm flattered. Or would you use my stumble as an excuse to get me out of here even faster, before I hurt myself?"
no subject
"Nah. Saw how you handled your footing on the ice when we met. Dress might be strange but you know how to hold your ground and how to move when you need to. If you had a mind I'd teach you a coupla my tricks." Like the pole arm tricks, if it'd help keep her safe. "That and I'd hustle you out, say'n you were fatigued. All this excitement, does give a lady the vapors."
no subject
"Careful what you say; some might say that your tricks would be inappropriate for a young lady." After all, Mal clearly doesn't belong here, charming though he might be, in his own way. "I'm not going to have to feign a fainting spell, am I? That damsel in distress bit sickens me, unless I'm genuinely fearing for my life." Then she'll accept help however she can get it, whether it's from a rugged man twice her size or a tiny wisp of a woman with a wicked punch.

"I can't believe you really did that! Someone's bound to have seen!"
