He'd taken a circuitous route to get here, chasing down a particularly nasty slaver troupe that he'd run across previously, but had been too heavily guarded before. This time, only two armed guards had made it easy.

A lot of people were heading back to their homes once more. He didn't care about that, not really. All he cared was that Tevinter wasn't getting it's latest shipment of slaves. But it was something one of the slavers said as he tried to beg for his life that had caught Fenris' attention - that Tevinter Magisters were seen at the Inquistion. It was what had sent him scurrying there as fast as he could. Magisters trying to infiltrate something that had set itself up for good could only go one way, and frankly, it would be easy pickings.

Of course, he knew he would be recognizable to them. Danarius had paraded him about too often for him not to be known, Still, it was a calculated risk. Besides, he'd heard Isabela and Varric were there. People he could trust.

It was vast, he realized as he joined the crowds of refugees pouring into Skyhold. A vast fortress up in the mountains. What better place to launch an invasion of either Orlais or Ferelden from. At least he could see why the Magisters were drawn here.

"There must be some very old magic concealing it." She looked around in wonder, as though the magic was thrumming in the stone and was protecting them all with the castle too now.

"Hmmm." Fenris was unamused at that thought. How much magic had to be used to conceal this, and why was it only found now? He didn't like it. Not at all. If he were paranoid, he would say that somehow magisters were involved with the concealing of it.

If he were paranoid. "Have many made there way here?"

"More than the place really has the capacity to hold, and I'm sure they'll continue to arrive." Her brow furrows a little, because she knows the practicalities of trying to hold too many people in too small a space, but the Inquisition's power and influence continued to grow, so she was sure there would be enough resources to feed and care for all of them. "The flow has begun to steady to a trickle, but it would only take a demon attack somewhere well populated to have another influx."

Demon attack, attack by slavers, attack by anyone else, really. They were on a knife edge here, it seemed. "Yes, a seemingly safe place, and people will travel hundreds of miles to find it." He'd seen it before. Kirkwall.

That was already a concern to Eirlys. It made strategic sense for the base of the Inquisition to be somewhere so remote, but she was sure that hundreds would perish trying to reach its safety. "How many hundreds did you travel?"

"Not far, I was in the Hinterlands most lately." He'd travelled many hundred of miles, many thousands since he'd left Tevinter if he wanted to count it all up, but of late, not too far.

"Oh, not too far at all, considering." Her Fereldan geography isn't brilliant, but she'd heard mention of troops in the Hinterlands. "I gather the Inquisition has been doing some good work there."

[aggregiopavali]

"No, not far." Small talk. Still a small price to pay for information. "I wouldn't know, I didn't run into many of their soldiers."

Translation: He was doing his best to stay out of their way.

Eirlys quirks up a brow at that - from what she'd heard, the Hinterlands was practically swarming with Inquisition soldiers by now. "You must have come here by the road less travelled in that case."

That gained a faint half-smile from Fenris - as much as he ever smiled. "You could say that, yes. I prefer to stay away from trouble where I can."

If he's not causing it, that is.

"If you're looking to avoid trouble, I'd have thought the Inquisition's the last place you'd want to come."

"Have you been out there? There is no avoiding trouble anywhere." Even if you wished to avoid trouble, it seemed to find people no matter where they were. At least here he could see what was going on.
