[semi-open] Solas Returns

WHO: Solas, open to: the Advisors, the Inner Circle, and peeps who want CR that have checked with me first. Hit me up here if you aren't sure
WHAT: Solace returns to Skyhold
WHEN: Drakonis 25 and onward
WHERE: Skyhold
NOTES: general warning for eggheads

Advisors

He brought the Rifters to the castle, but spent little time getting them acquainted, other than introducing them to a few of the scouts, who then were told to show them around the castle and find out who they were supposed to report to.

Solas had his own reports to make. And his own questions.

So when he burst into the War Room, mid-meeting, he was already starting on them before anyone had the chance to question him.

"Exactly how many shard bearers does the Inquisition have? I have just brought four with me, and I have heard rumours of the others, but--"

Inner Circle/Previous CR

He also made careful note to visit the others of the Inner Circle, whether or not he was personally fond of him. He needed to be brought fully up to date with the workings of the Inquisition, and the Herald's original Inner Circle were the best way to ascertain that.

So he sought each out, wherever they could be found, and offered a greeting. Some more formal than others.

[ooc: just go ahead and set up where they are and I'll have Solas approach them individually. Cass: you can have a post-advisor thread for one-on-one if you like!]

Varric wasn't an especially sensitive sort of guy, he could take criticism and negative reviews with the best of them, but he was more than a little relieved that the first person he explained this to seemed to think it was promising. His expression was still carefully nonchalant, but he still shot the elf a wry smile.

"Glad to hear you say that Chuckles," Varric replied smoothly. "You wouldn't happen to be interested in reading for it. The narration, perhaps?"

He wasn't sure why, but Varric was dead certain that Solas had a voice basically built for narration. He didn't wait to hear the elf's answer, though, and instead paused to lean into a room and test it. The echo was audible from the hallway.

"I mean, you could read for the dashing knight if you want, but his lines are a little...Orlesian." It was amazing how, when pronounced with just the right flare, that word sounded almost indistinguishable from the word 'insipid'.

Solas's redirect worked just about as well as it could have; Varric was too early along to really insist on anyone reading anything and, honestly, the whole thing might fall apart long before he got to that stage. No, right now he was all about a location.

"Well, I'm not sure if I should use something published and risk boring my audience, or make up something new and risk flopping. The format is already kind of a long shot..."

He shrugged a bit and checked another room. This one was more promising than the last and, with a speculative hum he motioned for Solas to join him. It was just a store-room...or a broom closet...or maybe a room to store considerable numbers of brooms? It was full of brooms.

He clanged the pot speculatively.

"I drafted up an adventure story--combat, romance, jousting, the whole deal--but I've got a crime serial that I can polish up for the purpose." He glanced back at the elf. "You think it'd be better received if I did contained short stories, or an ongoing...serial...drama? I can't decide and it's not like I can test it first. You only get one grand reveal, after all."

"Episodic storytelling?" Varric asked and both his brows rose in surprise. "Now there's an idea."

A contemplative expression darted across Varric's face, then, and he folded his arms (as much as someone could while holding kitchen utensils) as he thought. Solas had a point, about the appeal of a long, episodic story full of seemingly self-contained portions--having it both ways would also let him change it all as it went, if need be, and it really embraced short acts. Finding people to help would end up being a lot easier if he didn't have to talk them into, well, talking for several hours just to finish a story.

"That's a good idea--but The Story Of The Inquisition is a pretty high bar to start at...and the point of this is to be...less stressful than working for the Inquisition tends to be." He drummed his fingers against the pot handle. "But you've got a point about crafting the story first.

"I'd have to check on this before I do it, so that Ruffles and Nightingale don't skin me alive, but maybe we could roll...news and...dramatic accounts into the whole production? Put them at the beginning or end of something fictional so we get to dictate the facts and still escape from reality for a while?"
