WHO: Taashath & You!
WHAT: Catch-all for the month
WHEN: All through Justinian
WHERE: Skyhold (mostly)
NOTES: Feel free to hit me up on [plurk.com profile] draiol for any specific starters!

I. Training Circle

Heaving the maul up on his shoulder, Taas grins a little bit as he steps out of the ring. That had been a pretty good fight, and he's pretty certain the soldier would remember to keep his balance with a large weapon this time.

Rolling his neck a bit, the big warrior limbers up a bit before reaching to grab the mug of ale by the side, taking a drink from that before he turns back. "Anyone else?"

II. Sign Language 101

The warrior isn't sure how the little lessons in sign language he had given Cyril and Sam now seemed both common knowledge but gaining interest from other people. It makes him a little bit awkward as he tries to explain the difference between spoken words and the way sign language worked for what felt like the umpteenth time.

He was happy, really. It made his life a lot easier, and if he expanded it, it could even give the troops a way to communicate silently with something more detailed than hand signals. At other times, he's pretty certain they only want an excuse to flirt with him.

"So... why do you want to learn this?" He asks, brown eyes studying the new arrival.

III. Tavern

Taas doesn't spend as much time in the tavern as he used to, but when he does come in to drink and have a good time, he allows himself to completely relax and set everything else aside. With booze, music and friends, he could bury the events of the last missions far back in his head and instead just enjoy the moment.

Catch up with friends, meet new people, pick up someone for the night.

Afterwards, he either went home with that somebody or walked out alone in the courtyard, buzzed and smiling as he looked up into the sky. Skyhold really had a beautiful night sky even with the torches and braziers going, and the sound from the tavern - song and laughter - settled his body and mind into something worthy of his name.

Calm.

Of course Korrin has to attend. She's been meaning to ask Taas more about his sign language anyway, beyond learning a couple of basic signs from a while ago. This is the perfect opportunity to gain a better working knowledge of that, and though no flirting is involved, spending more time with him is never a bad thing.

She can't help but grin at the question, ready with an answer. "So we can pull all sorts of crap in front of people without them being any wiser for it. And I suppose it could be useful when we're on missions, too." That last part could be vital, since she certainly intends to include him when and where possible.

Mention of Cyril has her grinning, but she'll try to remain focused. This is something she actually does want to learn, after all. "Let me see...I remember the signs for 'danger ahead' and 'darkspawn'. 'Dragon', too, though you know by the time we actually see one, there isn't much need to sign about it." Still, it's a sign meaning dragon, so of course she had to ask.

Korrin does her best to mimic his signing accurately, not wanting to spell her own name wrong. "What about yours? Do you use a sign for 'calm' or just spell it out? Do others with Qunlat names do the same?"
gatheringstorm: (huh)

"'Karasaad'...nah, I like Taashath better." Of course she would. Korrin takes care to repeat the gestures as he shows her, hoping her usually decent memory will keep her from needing to ask over and over. "Good point, I hadn't thought of confusing the words like that. It could make things awkward, otherwise." And hell, spelling 'Taas' isn't that much more time-consuming, at least once she gets used to it.

"Alright, I think I can swing that." Korrin's willing to give it a shot, anyway, though she's sure her finger-work won't be as smooth or fast as his, even with his slowing down. Naturally, her mind goes to dragons and she thinks back to what she heard about the Storm Coast. 'Dragon and giant fight up ahead. Watch?'

"If we go to the Storm Coast together, maybe we'll catch them at it again. Who knows?" Korrin smiles, glad that Taas approves though she takes his notes to heart. At least she has his example to mimic, and that will hopefully carry over when he's not around.

"I'm willing to keep going, if you are. It seems like I've put this off for long enough, so I want to learn all I can while you have the time to spare."

Shaping this lesson around dragon hunting definitely makes it more entertaining, for all that Korrin would have behaved herself and focused regardless of the topic. That it has practical use is far more important, applying those signs to something tangible and not unlikely to happen. Now she has more incentive to make sure that they fight a dragon together.

Korrin nods, focusing on repeating 'horn' and 'take' since she already knows 'dragon' by heart. "Hm, what about 'dragonlings'? You know how they swarm out whenever their mother does that awful screech of hers. It could be useful to know for purposes of how many or where they're coming from or something."
gatheringstorm: (curious)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-07-03 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Korrin echoes the laugh, especially at seeing the sign for 'baby'. "Almost. I'd be happy to leave them alone, but they always swarm and then there's nothing to do by fight your way out of it." She then quirks an eyebrow, curious. "Do sonic attacks affect you at all? I know you can't hear it, but still. If it doesn't, that'd be really useful to know."
gatheringstorm: (huh)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-07-04 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Which one?" As it might be useful to know, Korrin has to ask. "Then you might be our saving grace, should we find a high dragon or another creature that likes to screech its head off. No pressure."

She flashes a grin, then looks thoughtful. "Is there a word for 'shapeshifter'? Some of my friends have gotten into that, and I get paranoid that they'll get mistaken for trouble before they can shift back."
gatheringstorm: (when she smiles)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-07-13 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
And Korrin wants to be there to see him punch a dragon. It will happen, just wait. Watching Taas try it out first, she then nods and echoes it, repeating herself so as to get it right.

"Ah...Sam, maybe? And Twisted Fate, I know that for sure. Ellana has a pretty badass honey badger thing going, too. It's always the nice ones that get underestimated."
gatheringstorm: (wow)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-07-16 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know, right? Asher was pretty flattered at that, since his hold beast is a honey badger. And I suppose scarves would work in battle or something, but for scouting, that'd kind of defeat the purpose." The hesitation isn't lost on her, and she nudges him gently, letting him know it's alright. "Before you ask, no, I'm pretty sure becoming a dragon isn't a possible. From what they've told me, anything bigger than a bear is out of the picture."
gatheringstorm: (smile)

Aww, Taas. He's getting a hug just for that. "You're so sweet. And now I want those words etched on a memorial when I go. Maybe with a big-ass dragon statue. Orlesians get to have their pompous, over-the-top crap for their people, why not us?"
