WHO: The Righteous Snow Teams & anyone who wants to watch (and laugh, and judge.)
WHAT: A GIANT SNOW FIGHT.
WHEN: 13th July or whatever the IC equivalent is.
WHERE: In the valley near Skyhold.
NOTES: ooc post 1 and also ooc post 2. The snow fight itself is closed to those that signed up, but the observation/chilling afterwards stuff is open. No warnings to add here, please put any that come up in the subject lines!

Also we have room for one more last minute sign up!

Wrap up warm! It probably goes without saying that certain medical personnel will be less than sympathetic to those who come to them with colds after this.

The valley near Skyhold has never really completely defrosted, given how high up they are in the Frostbacks, and Adelaide's students have found themselves working with an environment very receptive to the reintroduction of cold, even in the summer months.

The battle field is impressive. Each of the six teams has their own fortress, forming a rough circle on a thick blanket of snow. Each fort has one flag flapping over all others, the only one each has that cannot be stolen (or, at least, would be very challenging.) Their other seven flags are considerably smaller, and where they are depends entirely on how the team opts to defend them. The vast majority of the snow is white, but there are generous patches within and around each fort that matches that Team Fort's colour. Each fort is a little different, but comes with a catapult build inside it, and scattered around the field are large snow drifts, some battering rams, and a trebuchet. (No trebearchet, sadly. We can always dream.)

Every team member is given a sash of their team colour, and a round wooden shield that is so padded that hurting someone with it would actually be quite an accomplishment.

Far enough away to be spared the fighting, but not to entirely escape the chill that has been renewed in the valley, are some benches. There is warm cider and some food being served, and people are welcome to come and watch (and laugh, and judge) and/or hang out with the noble warriors once the fight has wound down.

IC-ish RULES AND STUFF.
1. NO WEAPONS, NO MAGIC.
Assume there is unlimited snow - some dyed to match team colours - so there are snowballs galore! Every person also gets an extremely well padded round shield as a chance to defend themselves. Don't use the shield as a weapon, pls and ty.

2. FLAAAAGS.
Each team gets seven flags that match their team colour. The IC goal is to capture as many flags as you can, but OOCly this is flexible and timey wimey and you don't need to worry about keeping track of flags bc who has time for that?

3. NO VIOLENCE.
Or, more accurately, no going out there to hurt people - it is a snow fight and there is siege equipment, let's not kid ourselves. That said; no tackling anyone smoller than you. If you hurt someone, apologise and don't be an ass. Don't make an NPC referee come after you.

4. BASICALLY JUST HAVE FUN.
Characters can't be eliminated unless they're being a big jerk, but no one wants that to happen because friendship is magic, or something. If it's fun and its awesome then odds are it's totally fine, unless it'd put a character in danger.

There will be an IC prize for winning, which will be ICly due to happen after Orlais since that opens up so soon after the snow fight.

A quick recap on how the winners will be determined OOCly - in three weeks time I will do a tally of points based on comment count and tagging around done per team. Three weeks will hopefully allow everyone a chance to dive in even if unexpected RL things happen, as they are wont to do, and not put on too much pressure with the Orlais plots opening up.

How to get points:
1. Open starters! Every team will get 2 points per team member that posts an open starter.

2. Tag around! Every team will get 2 points every time a team member tags a new person. (If character A tags characters B, C & D they will get 6 points total for tagging around - three different threads with character A and character B would still only result in 2 points.)

3. Keep threads going, hop around and have fun! Every comment by a team member will be worth 1 point. (Multi-comment responses ie. one tag split over two or more comments will still only count for 1 point.)

4. Be hilarious, do something awesome, idk persuade me that something is worth an extra point. NO SERIOUSLY, TELL ME I love excuses to reward people for puns and/or being absurd.

5. IC rule breaking may result in points being taken away because how rude.

Hermione | Team Goldenrod

All things considered, it’s the closest to a Gryffindor color she could have hoped for, but Hermione still tugs at the sash over her chest to make sure it’s secure. She finds that she's actually a bit nervous; after all, she's far from athletic, and with magic being removed from the equation, she has no real advantage in this game.

She’s fairly small, but she’s not nearly as agile as some of the other participants. She could (and occasionally does) huddle up with the rest of her team to try and work out a strategy involving feints and traps and using one person as bait as another sneaks past the opposing lookouts and steals the flags, but that sort of defeats the purpose of simply relaxing and having fun, doesn’t it?

Competitiveness is in her nature, so it’s actually quite questionable just how much fun she’ll really have, even as she gradually goes from protecting a specific flag so she could avoid the bulk of the "fight" to eventually making attempts at other teams' flags, flinging snowballs as she goes. After all, the rules say she can't tackle anyone smaller than her, but how many people involved in this whole thing are actually smaller than her?

Agility is Ciri's main power in this event because her tallness could easily work against her so when she isn't on guard duty, she's out in the field looking for targets. In a way, it's a like a fight and she has to keep moving to avoid anyone getting the surprise on her.

It's hurrying toward an enemy base when the flash of gold catches her attention and she slows, bending down to roll a snowball up in her hands. Carefully, oh so carefully, she approaches Hermione until the other young woman is in range. A breath and then she moves, taking aim and launching the snowball toward her target.

Hermione had never really been one for throwing snowballs, except as retaliation for bullying or some sort of thing. Even then, she'd much rather fling words at people instead, but she knows that words aren't really the point of this whole game. She should have sussed that out with Ruby when she'd initially agreed to participate in this entire fiasco.

But when she feels the icy sting of a snowball hit her, she looks for her new target even as she staggers back a little. If this doesn't count as retaliation, she doesn't know what does.

She'd been trying not to hit people she doesn't know, given that she's uncertain about their overall temperament, but when she sees Ciri, she decides that this can count as an exception to her personal rule. After all, she'd started it. So she quickly bends down, grabbing at a handful of snow and already patting it into an appropriate ball shape as she dashes forward to close the distance, hoping that will compensate for her aim as she tosses the snowball.

"Hav'n fun, li'l miss?" Not so little, very much a miss, but Mal's still pok'n about to find a better nickname for her. Right now huddling in a trench with her and Jayne to try and pick out the best angle for the next flag. "You know what I bet they'd never see? You rid'n up on Jayne and grabb'n it."

Hermione doesn't consider this sort of thing fun, not unless you count that brief moment where she makes a solid hit and before she realizes that oh, right, there's going to be retaliation. Because really, no one enjoys being hit with snowballs. So she doesn't answer Mal's question right away, and she finds that she won't be answering it at all, given the incredulous look she gives him at that insane suggestion.

"Ride Jayne?!" she gasps. "I couldn't do that! Jayne would never be able to support my weight!" Then again, mabari do seem to be built much stockier than others dogs she'd seen, and she finds herself looking Jayne over with a small, considering frown on her face. "Would he?"

She's not exactly overly large, after all.

"He would." She ain't all that big and even for a Mabari Jayne is a mite tall and a mite burly. There's muscle under all that blubber. "Not for all that long but a quick sprint? He'll have you out and about quick 'nuf."

Jayne slides to a stop from where he's sprinted over, thudding against Mal's side hard enough to stagger him where he's kneeling.

Big un, this dog.

"All you gotta do is point and tell him where t'go. Ain't all that different from rid'n a horse 'cept he's a mite smarter."

The idea of riding a dog - even a dog as big as Jayne - should leave Hermione feeling aghast. And really, it does. But seeing just how solid he is even when dealing with his much larger owner, she finds her throat drying out as she realizes she's actually debating the idea.

"But then people would be throwing snowballs at him," she counters, reaching out to pet Jayne as though protecting him from the madness of this silly snow fight. "What if he gets hurt?"

Right. Because a giant war hound is going to get more hurt by a snowball than by a flood of arrows or darkspawn.

"Yeah, but he thinks it's fun." Jayne leans bodily in against her hand, damp nose chilled and huffing with happy panting dog breath. "Should just be powder and snow and some dye. Ain't noth'n that'll hurt him. Not everyone on the field is Fereldan but they know better than to hurt a dog."

There will be a lot of howl'n and growl'n if that does happen.

"He'll be fine. This is all one big game t'him, innit? He's hav'n the time of his life."

"Well...." Hermione hesitates, scarcely believing that she's even considering the idea. Frowning down at Jayne as though trying to figure out how much weight he can bear and for how long, she goes from gently scratching behind his ears to experimentally patting at his flank. He is rather muscular....

"If you're sure he wouldn't be hurt," she tells Mal before focusing on Jayne again and speaking directly to him. "You know I wouldn't want to hurt you, don't you, Jayne? We can dash in and out of that fort without tiring you out, right?"
