WHO: The Righteous Snow Teams & anyone who wants to watch (and laugh, and judge.)
WHAT: A GIANT SNOW FIGHT.
WHEN: 13th July or whatever the IC equivalent is.
WHERE: In the valley near Skyhold.
NOTES: ooc post 1 and also ooc post 2. The snow fight itself is closed to those that signed up, but the observation/chilling afterwards stuff is open. No warnings to add here, please put any that come up in the subject lines!

Also we have room for one more last minute sign up!

Wrap up warm! It probably goes without saying that certain medical personnel will be less than sympathetic to those who come to them with colds after this.

The valley near Skyhold has never really completely defrosted, given how high up they are in the Frostbacks, and Adelaide's students have found themselves working with an environment very receptive to the reintroduction of cold, even in the summer months.

The battle field is impressive. Each of the six teams has their own fortress, forming a rough circle on a thick blanket of snow. Each fort has one flag flapping over all others, the only one each has that cannot be stolen (or, at least, would be very challenging.) Their other seven flags are considerably smaller, and where they are depends entirely on how the team opts to defend them. The vast majority of the snow is white, but there are generous patches within and around each fort that matches that Team Fort's colour. Each fort is a little different, but comes with a catapult build inside it, and scattered around the field are large snow drifts, some battering rams, and a trebuchet. (No trebearchet, sadly. We can always dream.)

Every team member is given a sash of their team colour, and a round wooden shield that is so padded that hurting someone with it would actually be quite an accomplishment.

Far enough away to be spared the fighting, but not to entirely escape the chill that has been renewed in the valley, are some benches. There is warm cider and some food being served, and people are welcome to come and watch (and laugh, and judge) and/or hang out with the noble warriors once the fight has wound down.

IC-ish RULES AND STUFF.
1. NO WEAPONS, NO MAGIC.
Assume there is unlimited snow - some dyed to match team colours - so there are snowballs galore! Every person also gets an extremely well padded round shield as a chance to defend themselves. Don't use the shield as a weapon, pls and ty.

2. FLAAAAGS.
Each team gets seven flags that match their team colour. The IC goal is to capture as many flags as you can, but OOCly this is flexible and timey wimey and you don't need to worry about keeping track of flags bc who has time for that?

3. NO VIOLENCE.
Or, more accurately, no going out there to hurt people - it is a snow fight and there is siege equipment, let's not kid ourselves. That said; no tackling anyone smoller than you. If you hurt someone, apologise and don't be an ass. Don't make an NPC referee come after you.

4. BASICALLY JUST HAVE FUN.
Characters can't be eliminated unless they're being a big jerk, but no one wants that to happen because friendship is magic, or something. If it's fun and its awesome then odds are it's totally fine, unless it'd put a character in danger.

There will be an IC prize for winning, which will be ICly due to happen after Orlais since that opens up so soon after the snow fight.

A quick recap on how the winners will be determined OOCly - in three weeks time I will do a tally of points based on comment count and tagging around done per team. Three weeks will hopefully allow everyone a chance to dive in even if unexpected RL things happen, as they are wont to do, and not put on too much pressure with the Orlais plots opening up.

How to get points:
1. Open starters! Every team will get 2 points per team member that posts an open starter.

2. Tag around! Every team will get 2 points every time a team member tags a new person. (If character A tags characters B, C & D they will get 6 points total for tagging around - three different threads with character A and character B would still only result in 2 points.)

3. Keep threads going, hop around and have fun! Every comment by a team member will be worth 1 point. (Multi-comment responses ie. one tag split over two or more comments will still only count for 1 point.)

4. Be hilarious, do something awesome, idk persuade me that something is worth an extra point. NO SERIOUSLY, TELL ME I love excuses to reward people for puns and/or being absurd.

5. IC rule breaking may result in points being taken away because how rude.

Cosima | team violet | ota

a. sneaking

So Cosima's an only child from California, which means her snowball fight experience is limited. What she does know, though, is paintball, a game at which being small and not terribly fast also initially put her at a disadvantage.

The answer? Ambushes. Prepare to trip over blocks of snow, or have her pop out from behind an especially large drift or just take advantage of the many, many diversions going on all over the place to sucker-punch you with a violet snowball.

b. this could have gone better

Cosima is many colors by this point, though her violet sash is still visible. Her glasses have fogged up a bit, which is admittedly not ideal. So she's backtracking toward her team's fortress... but it's much further away than she thought it was. Whoops.

Lexa is pretty good at this snow war thing. She has a lot of experience: with snow, with wars, with wars in the snow, and even with snow wars. It's been more than a few years since she seriously engaged in this sort of training exercise but she's settled in comfortably, and the sharp edge of her usual wariness has dulled a little. Maybe it's her success thus far making her cocky, maybe it's the shots of schnapps her teammates have been handing out like water, or maybe she's actually, secretly--shock, horror--having fun.

But the result is that even though she was grabbing at the ankles of unsuspecting passers-by herself not an hour ago and should absolutely know better, she is too busy packing a snowball and looking back over her shoulder to pay attention to where she's walking and notice the block of snow that catches her feet and sends her sprawling. She gets her hands beneath her and the landing is pretty soft, but there's still a heavy oof of breath leaving lungs as she goes down.

"HaHA," Cosima says, semi-dramatically, in satisfaction that she actually caught someone. (It is absolutely unprofessional to say haHA when your trap works, though she's been known to say it at board game night with various levels of sincerity.)

She is absolutely sure she's going to have a very limited window, so she dashes over to try and see whether this person is either evidently carrying a flag or visibly hurt. If neither...

Well, snow down the collar and running away is no one's idea of a sophisticated plan, but it's probably the best she has.

A very limited window, since as soon as the initial shock of impact has worn off, Lexa is getting hands and knees beneath her. If she has a flag (she does) it's not immediately apparent, and she doesn't appear to be injured so much as surprised and maybe a little irritated with herself. A little more irritated after Cosima manages to shove a handful of snow down the back of her collar, an indignity she's managed not to suffer yet today, somehow.

She makes a noise of surprise and protest, and almost manages to catch at the rifter as she makes her escape, but gloved fingers can't quite manage a grip. She's back on her feet quickly, though, not bothering to try to shake the snow back out before she's giving chase.

It has belatedly occurred to Cosima that volunteering to participate in a snow fight with a lot of people who actually fight, not with snow, on a regular basis was probably a pretty crazy idea. The worst that can happen is (probably) that she'll end up multi-colored and soaking wet, but even so.

It's going to quickly become apparent to both of them that Lexa is gaining, and no handy violet teammate seems to be around.

Exit strategy, Cosima thinks sternly. Next time, plan all the way to the exit strategy.

[[ooc: Sam and Anders are heading over from here, if that's cool!]]

Violet stands out against the snow, and there are two people looking for a target - one with apricot, and one with periwinkle. Anders doesn't know who the woman is, but she's playing the game. And, bonus, if he doesn't know who she is, she may not know who he is.

"There," he calls to Sam, scooping up snow. He's... not great at subtle.

There.

It takes a moment for Sam to pinpoint exactly whom Anders is singling out, tilting his head a bit as he watches the woman running towards her fort if he's looking at it right. He doesn't recognize her, so he doesn't even know who they're targeting.

Nice subtly, Anders. Quickly he starts to pack another snowball as well. "She got a flag?"

[[ooc: Works great!]]

Given the many colors of snow with which Cosima has been hit, making out a flag might be difficult; there's certainly not one immediately apparent. The sash is definitely violet, or at least dark purple.

"Run" is probably a generous description of her slow but steady jog. It's been a fun day, mostly, but she's tired and doesn't want to trip while she's half blind from the condensation.

Anders' call is loud enough that she instinctively glances back and pauses, trying to make out where the voices came from and unintentionally making herself a stationary target.

"I've no idea," Anders replies, throwing the first shot. "She's an enemy and..." And standing still, and possibly confused, and now Anders feels a little bad. It's cold out. She might not be all right, and he's leading an ambush.

"Are you all right down there?" He calls it out, still standing out in the open. And people wonder how he got caught after escaping seven times.
youwonscience: (and then dismissed you)

[personal profile] youwonscience 2016-07-30 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
His first throw catches her shoulder and she spins. "You mean besides being sucker-punched with a snowball?" she calls back, bemused but not seemingly in actual distress. She's cold, but not in danger - and with enough wits about her to draw together a snowball herself.

(Can she see to aim it? Details.)

[OoC: Perfectly fine]

The hesitation in Anders' voice has Sam stopping from throwing his own snowball, arms lowering when the man out right starts asking if she's alright after having just hit her.

He's not sure what a 'sucker-punch' is but he's not sure a snowball can punch. Either way their cover is blown, Sam standing there awkwardly, not knowing if they were still fighting now and looking at Anders beside him on top of the snow hill within throwing distance.
justice_is_blond: (Just a little amused)

[personal profile] justice_is_blond 2016-08-06 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
He sees Sam stopping as well, but his question is answered.

"She can crack jokes back and she's gathering snow. She's fine. It's time to attack." Snark doesn't always mean someone is fine, but he didn't hear any anger or pain in her voice. They're good. Anders kneels down to start gathering more snow as well, balling it up as quickly as he can.
youwonscience: (take a ladder to the shadows)

[personal profile] youwonscience 2016-08-08 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
She can kind of see them, even through her wet lenses, since they're obligingly standing out in the open. She's not going to outrun them, that's obvious, so instead she just lobs some snow at one of them - she has no idea which one hit her, and it doesn't really matter - to see what they do.

If they get close enough, she's definitely smaller. She could try to tackle them. She's not sure it would be very effective.

Just as Anders is discussing that their target is gathering snow, Sam turns to look - only to get hit with a snowball. Well more like it grazes his leg, but technically that's still being hit. "I guess you're right."

He doesn't blame whomever it is for fighting back, but since they are, it doesn't seem like it's much of a big deal to attack back. With that in mind, Sam tosses his own snowball down at the figure, not stopping to see if the apricot colored snow actually hit before starting on a new one.
