WHO: The Righteous Snow Teams & anyone who wants to watch (and laugh, and judge.)
WHAT: A GIANT SNOW FIGHT.
WHEN: 13th July or whatever the IC equivalent is.
WHERE: In the valley near Skyhold.
NOTES: ooc post 1 and also ooc post 2. The snow fight itself is closed to those that signed up, but the observation/chilling afterwards stuff is open. No warnings to add here, please put any that come up in the subject lines!

Also we have room for one more last minute sign up!

Wrap up warm! It probably goes without saying that certain medical personnel will be less than sympathetic to those who come to them with colds after this.

The valley near Skyhold has never really completely defrosted, given how high up they are in the Frostbacks, and Adelaide's students have found themselves working with an environment very receptive to the reintroduction of cold, even in the summer months.

The battle field is impressive. Each of the six teams has their own fortress, forming a rough circle on a thick blanket of snow. Each fort has one flag flapping over all others, the only one each has that cannot be stolen (or, at least, would be very challenging.) Their other seven flags are considerably smaller, and where they are depends entirely on how the team opts to defend them. The vast majority of the snow is white, but there are generous patches within and around each fort that matches that Team Fort's colour. Each fort is a little different, but comes with a catapult build inside it, and scattered around the field are large snow drifts, some battering rams, and a trebuchet. (No trebearchet, sadly. We can always dream.)

Every team member is given a sash of their team colour, and a round wooden shield that is so padded that hurting someone with it would actually be quite an accomplishment.

Far enough away to be spared the fighting, but not to entirely escape the chill that has been renewed in the valley, are some benches. There is warm cider and some food being served, and people are welcome to come and watch (and laugh, and judge) and/or hang out with the noble warriors once the fight has wound down.

IC-ish RULES AND STUFF.
1. NO WEAPONS, NO MAGIC.
Assume there is unlimited snow - some dyed to match team colours - so there are snowballs galore! Every person also gets an extremely well padded round shield as a chance to defend themselves. Don't use the shield as a weapon, pls and ty.

2. FLAAAAGS.
Each team gets seven flags that match their team colour. The IC goal is to capture as many flags as you can, but OOCly this is flexible and timey wimey and you don't need to worry about keeping track of flags bc who has time for that?

3. NO VIOLENCE.
Or, more accurately, no going out there to hurt people - it is a snow fight and there is siege equipment, let's not kid ourselves. That said; no tackling anyone smoller than you. If you hurt someone, apologise and don't be an ass. Don't make an NPC referee come after you.

4. BASICALLY JUST HAVE FUN.
Characters can't be eliminated unless they're being a big jerk, but no one wants that to happen because friendship is magic, or something. If it's fun and its awesome then odds are it's totally fine, unless it'd put a character in danger.

There will be an IC prize for winning, which will be ICly due to happen after Orlais since that opens up so soon after the snow fight.

A quick recap on how the winners will be determined OOCly - in three weeks time I will do a tally of points based on comment count and tagging around done per team. Three weeks will hopefully allow everyone a chance to dive in even if unexpected RL things happen, as they are wont to do, and not put on too much pressure with the Orlais plots opening up.

How to get points:
1. Open starters! Every team will get 2 points per team member that posts an open starter.

2. Tag around! Every team will get 2 points every time a team member tags a new person. (If character A tags characters B, C & D they will get 6 points total for tagging around - three different threads with character A and character B would still only result in 2 points.)

3. Keep threads going, hop around and have fun! Every comment by a team member will be worth 1 point. (Multi-comment responses ie. one tag split over two or more comments will still only count for 1 point.)

4. Be hilarious, do something awesome, idk persuade me that something is worth an extra point. NO SERIOUSLY, TELL ME I love excuses to reward people for puns and/or being absurd.

5. IC rule breaking may result in points being taken away because how rude.

"You wouldn't! You can't tackle me!" She might be tall, but he still had roughly five inches in height on her. Staggering backwards through a drift without snowshoes was an art form-- one Sadira did not possess. As soon as she hit the uneven ground of the snowbank, dooooooown she went with a sudden cry of alarm as she pinwheeled backwards into the snow.

Seeing Sadira fall backwards and give a yelp, Sam slows down a bit, then stopping right at her boots. He's panting a bit from the dash, puffs of warm air escaping his mouth as he does so. Sam wasn't expecting that to happen, but it certainly worked in his favor. "Wasn't planning on it, though it looks like scaring you worked out."

Without wasting an opportunity, Sam raises his snowball and lightly tosses it onto her. He huffs with slight amusement, a smile pulling at his lips as he continues to look down at her. "You should watch where you're going you know."

She huffs, fixing him with a mock glower. So very threatening trapped like a turtle on her back in a snowbank. The snowball causes her to squirm even more, not because it's cold-- her entire backside is cold, but because it is an easy win for him.

"I agree, it seems I need to work on my situational awareness." She held out a hand to him, "Care to help me out, are are you content to point and laugh?"

Hey he was going to take every opportunity he could get - everyone else was doing the same. "I wouldn't point and laugh," he says with a chuckle. He'll just laugh, since that had gone a lot different than expected.

"You alright?" Reaching out he grabs her hand with his own and pulls to get her on her feet. "I honestly thought you'd just turn tail and run."

She huffed shaking her head, then shivering as it caused some snow to slip from her hair down her neck. At least she didn't start doing the cold snow dance. It would have been her just reward for getting him from behind earlier.

"Oh perfectly fine for an ice statue." She made a face, reaching up to shake the rest of the snow out of her hair and to brush off what was coating her as best she could. "Remind me to thank whoever suggested this sport with a snowball or four."

Once free of the extra snow,s he shrugged, "Honestly, I don't know why I didn't run either. Guess I thought it wasn't dignified. Of course, falling on my arse isn't dignified either."

[personal profile] el_tybs 2016-08-02 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"The person who started snowballs, or this competition?" He certainly doesn't know who started the former, and as for the latter he didn't know but that was easy enough to figure out.

"I suppose it isn't really dignified, but I'm not going to tell." As he watches her knock more snow from her hair, Sam brings a hand up to his mouth, lightly blowing into it to get some warmth back into it. "Though I suppose that's what you get for attacking someone from behind."

"The person who started this competition. Lobbing snow at each other I think is a past time no matter where you're from. So long as there is snow at least." She'd grown up in Ostwick, too far north for snow. Just fog coming in off the sea occasionally.

Satisfied that she had most of the snow off her person, she stuck her tongue out at him, grinning cheekily, "In my defense, it was funny at the time!"
el_tybs: Evan Antin (grin_tilt)

[personal profile] el_tybs 2016-08-06 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ostwick had been rather odd that it didn't have snow, but then again he was in a stone tower for the better part of his life so not like he would've seen much of it anyways if there had been.

"In your defense - yes, I would probably agree with you. Course since my back is wetter and colder than before it's a bit less so." Seemed people had a thing for putting snow under his clothes.

[personal profile] fledglingenchanter 2016-08-07 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
She smirked at him and shrugged. "It's not just you. I'm pretty sure I had a few people shove show down my shirt a few times as well. Or pelt me in the face." Because copping a snowball to the face was fun. Her grin grew a little more, "I think we can call it even on who is cold and wet."

[personal profile] el_tybs 2016-08-15 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Pelt you in the face? That's rough." He hasn't been that lucky. "Worst I've gotten is being tackled and then marked under my clothes. Reaching down Sam just lifts the edge of his shirt to show off a small bit of the patch of periwinkle that colors his stomach now, but that's all he shows. "People are really relentless in this game."

[personal profile] fledglingenchanter 2016-08-16 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
She nods, rubbing at her cheek. "It was with an unmarked snowball too, so I don't know what team they were on." Sighing she pushed her fingers into her mass of tangled curls and brushed it back. "I'm going to be washing dye out of my hair for a week at least." At least it was black. Which his some of the most muddled colors.

"And yeah. I think people need some fun if they're this serious. Some obvious release of tension needed."
el_tybs: Evan Antin (smile_D)

[personal profile] el_tybs 2016-08-16 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
That last part has Sam chuckling, the cold biting at his cheeks hiding the bit of blush that crops up as his mind goes elsewhere. "I'm pretty sure there are plenty of things people do to ease some tension. But this is indeed a good way to get everyone to work together." Or take frustration out on certain individuals without actually injuring them.

To that, she laughs softly shaking her head despite a wolfish grin appearing. She may have grown up in a Circle, but that didn't mean she was celibate. "Despite the number of nooks and crannies here in Skyhold, privacy and quality time are limited, even if you are a former circle mage who has experience in finding them!" Then chuckling again, she gestures out to the snowfield, "This at least allows for reckless abandon... and vengeance all in the name of fun without needing to find a secluded corner."
el_tybs: Evan Antin (smile_side)

[personal profile] el_tybs 2016-08-16 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Quite the opposite than him then, it's only after getting out he's gotten any experience. "You're lucky then. I was never without an eye out for me." A pause. "That and I was too big for any of the nooks and crannies." He just stood out too much. Shaking his head at the turn of their conversation, Sam gives a chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck and regretting it immediately at the chilled touch.

"What Circle were you in?"

Sadira chuckled again. "I grew up in Ostwick but was in the process of being transferred to Montsimmard when everything fell apart. What about you?"
el_tybs: Evan Antin (Default)

[personal profile] el_tybs 2016-08-17 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Sam blinks at that. "I was in Ostwick, too," though his accent is obviously not from the Free Marches, "for a decent part of my life. I was sent out with a few Templars to the Conclave when... well everything went wrong." Another person who was from Ostwick, huh.

She tilts her head looking at him as her brows knitted together trying to place him. "Possibly a few classes ahead of me? It took me a long time to stop being terrified of my magic. I only just passed my harrowing two or so years ago." IT was impossible not to make a face, "I'm sorry you were caught up in that. I heard it was bad."

Sam cannot help but make a bit of a face in return hearing about the Harrowing - it was something that still bothered him. "I took mind almost... eight years ago. I suppose not too surprising that we didn't cross paths much." Even if it was just a tower there were still many mages there that you didn't possibly know all of them.

"It was... something. I got lucky to be honest - if I hadn't decided to head for the town for a moment." Well he wouldn't be here now that's for sure.

She was still having nightmares about her harrowing thanks to the fear demon she encountered. "Indeed. I was also very nondescript. I tried to draw as little attention to myself as possible and was usually in the Chantry or studying anything I could get my hands on about being a Knight-Enchanter."

Her expression goes dark as he spoke about the Circle. "I heard it was bad. So many died-- I always thought Ostwick was sedate... who knew there was that much dissension among those who wanted freedom. "
el_tybs: Evan Antin (Default)

[personal profile] el_tybs 2016-08-26 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Even if Ostwick was not as bad as other Circles I'm honestly not surprised that there were many who felt that way. The fact that it happened as it did though... I didn't think anyone would go that far." He had a healthy dislike for the Circle, but blood magic and slaying the higher-ups as they did? They had been good people individually if you didn't think Templar and Mage.

"It didn't seem like there was much on Knight-Enchanters since I never came across it - it was a bit of a surprise when I learned of it here."
fledglingenchanter: (pic#10470326)

[personal profile] fledglingenchanter 2016-08-29 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Sadira nodded, flicking a bit of snow off her gloves, " so that she could tuck her hands closer to her body, Fake cold was still cold. "Knight-Enchanters as a rule it seems are carefully monitored and not every circle does the training of one. Teaching a mage about rank and file as well as leadership back before the circles fell would have been a recipe for disaster. It's also why I was on my way to Montsimmard when everything fell to pieces."
el_tybs: Evan Antin (grin_tilt)

[personal profile] el_tybs 2016-09-03 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hm. Does that mean you are a Knight-Enchanter or are you still looking to become one?" He knows several of the mages in Skyhold have already learned to become as such - he's even helped with making their weapons. "The sword are pretty cool."
