The 'Gun' Show

So lessons in falling safely were going well. That was probably just being nice about it. Gavin knew how to climb, but his falling expertise was in 'no grace and nearly breaking a neck'. Sam on the other hand could take a fall well, but his climbing could certainly take work.

Obviously they needed to work on some things, like perhaps working out to better themselves. And what better way than to do that with a buddy?

"So wait... you fell and managed to do so in such a way to slam into a horse?" He doesn't want to believe it, but after knowing Gavin after this long he does. Sam finds it amusing that they both have a habit of falling or hurting themselves in some odd fashion, but Gavin truly has a gift.

Gavin stood above him, hands around Sam's ankles.

"Got it?" He asked, looking down as he carefully started to pull his hands away. "Okay, now try to raise your legs until they are straight..."

Gavin hovers, ready to catch him if he falls over, hands held out.

"Straight up, hopefully," Gavin agreed a little wryly. "You know, I knew a man that could do this while I sat on his feet..."

"You push up the ground," Gavin said, grinning. "And I'm not lying. He'd get like this with his knees on his elbows and then I'd sit down and he'd push me right up!"

Despite the claim otherwise, he very well could be lying, but it's impossible to tell.

He reaches out and grabs Sam's legs and tries to pull them up higher, to show him.

Gavin gets pulled down with him, though he manages not to fall on Sam and just smack down into the earth at his side. He wheezes laughter as he rolls over onto his back.

"O-ow...." He manages to say, before laughing more, breathlessly. He reaches over to pat Sam's head clumsily. "Sorry. That was hilarious, though. Should have seen your face."

"Never know until you try," Gavin replied, turning his head to flash Sam a charming grin.

Sitting up, he shook himself, brushing off the dirt. "Besides, you had most of the body weight. I wasn't trying to lift you right off the ground. Way too much muscle for that."

Gavin snickered as he pulled himself upright, and then leaned down to offer Sam an arm up as well.

"I would never make fun of your muscles," He said, reaching out to squeeze Sam's bicep once he was standing. "Oggle them? Sure. Feel ravenously envious? Of course. But I would never make fun of them." His eyes twinkled as he spoke and then he pulled back to brush himself down completely.

"I'm mostly surprised that you think I might have a forte at all."

"Okay, if falling out of things or causing trouble count as fortes, then maybe I have a couple," He replied with a grin - noticing the faint blush but he wasn't going to push it, this time. This time.

"What about you? Blacksmithing must be an actual forte. Magicing people to death. Well. Or healing them. You know what I mean."

"Well, I think I can pull off a decent shot, at least." He's being somewhat modest, and for good reason. All his best shots look like accidents. "And I can drink like a dwarf. That must count for something."

"I guess it depends on how you define 'good at'," He mused, leaning on that very wall, his thoughts taking him away from the handstands. "I've met a lot of people, and no matter how good I am at something, I know there's someone better. I've met someone better! And to be honest - I kind of like it that way. I like just kind of - muddling through things."

It kept expectations low.

It kept disappointment at bay.

"Yeah, exactly. Why settle on doing one thing well when I can do dozens of things with mediocrity."

He watches Sam as he moves, his hand going out to touch the man's ankles and help stabilize him.

"Then I always have plenty to learn, right?"

Gavin laughs and rubs his forehead, pretending it hurt more than it had.

"Well, alright, but what in Thedas would I want to be better at than everyone? Can I just be good at cheering people up? Is that a skill I can master?"

"Now you're getting all philosophical on me," Gavin accused, laughing, before pushing Sam over (gently, but firmly) in retaliation.

"I would tell you if I knew," Gavin replied honestly, laughing, before stepping over to help him back up. "Right now, I want to be the best that I can be at helping the Inquisition defeat Corypheus. Everything else is sort of secondary."

Gavin laughed, and patted Sam's shoulder companionably. "Sounds good to me. Come on, let's see if I can't get you to learn how to drink. Ale on me."
