There were still plenty of traps left over and because of that Sam does not move forward, keeping his sword deactivated at the moment and simply using it as a focus. Instead of interfering in close combat the mage instead throws down a paralysis glyph under the Venatori, which activates immediately when one of the men moves his foot even slightly.

Ellana leaps up from her crouched position, surveys the situation, and focuses on the mage with Immolate. The flames surround him and with a scream he pulls off his satchel and throws it into the snow. Interesting. It seems as important to the Venatori as the sack. Then the mage follows, throwing himself in the snow to try and snuff out the flames. Unfortunately, the spell's flames burn so hot, fast, and long that they aren't going out no matter how much he rolls.
The stuck Venatori finally come out from under the glyph's effects and both men panic, trying to retreat. One steps on another trap and is engulfed in fire yet again. The other manages to fall back and assess the situation with drawn sword. He looks between the small man with their sack and the two mages before he runs after Tyrion, sword raised and yelling.

Well clearly, there was only one thing to do. He took a moment to breath out, hold the bag nice and low, with the handle. Then he shifted far enough to the left and thrust out his bag to trip the rather ridiculous man who was yelling at him with a damned sword like he was some sort of maniac.
Hopefully, directly into the fire itself.

Granted this means the man who Tyrion had tripped is saved from getting burned, but he isn't out of danger just yet. Another Glyph of Paralysis appears under him and the man once more finds himself unable to move.

The third is pitched forward when Tyrion trips him, his body in an odd position of being nearly horizontal and frozen in place by the paralysis spell. Ellana blows out a breath of relief when she sees the wall of flames disappear, because now they're not cut off from Tyrion, and fires an Elemental Barrage at the Venatori, the glyph of electricity appearing before her as she does so. The lightning courses through his body, blowing off his boots and leaving his feet smoking.
"That should do it," she says, eyes flickering to the fort's main gate to see if any more are coming. But all is silent again in the Hinterlands.
"Why don't you see what's in that bag, Tyrion? I'll grab the satchel the mage carried." And she gives the traps a wide berth as she heads over. Inside, Tyrion will find a pile of shards, resembling stone tablets with a slight blue glow to them.

He plucked out one of the glowing shards, tilting it this way and that, "Oh, lovely. They're ... rather creepy looking tablets with skulls on them."
no subject
He can certainly agree that there is a bit of creepiness to the shards, only coming close enough to look at them. "And what do you have in your bag, Ellana?"

"Notes on the shards. Research, tests... it's a lot to go through. We should head inside and see what the others have found. I'm guessing if there are any Ventatori still alive, they're being questioned right now."
