WHO: Harry Potter and OPEN
WHAT: Realising that a cracked wand is no good for fighting demons, Harry seeks out some mages who might be wiling to teach him how to fight with a staff.
WHEN: Throughout the day
WHERE: Warden Camp and Skyhold Proper
NOTES: This post is specifically for him to begin to learn Thedas style magic BUT it also functions as a general OPEN post which means even if your character isn't a mage feel free to reply to ask him why he's looming around or to just say hi!

Skyhold

He's learned by now that his wand is not reliable anymore and it pains him to even try to cast spells and risk it breaking completely again. He doesn't have the Elder Wand to fix it this time and he can't risk losing it completely again. It feels as if a part of him has cracked and he feels real remorse over not being able to easily use magic. It's almost as if his senses had been dulled.

Eventually, though, he realizes that he might be able to use the staff based magic that the mages here use. He won't be floating teacups across the room any time soon but it's better than being defenseless. He knows enough by now to know that he can't just make a declaration that he wants to learn magic here without some people misunderstanding his motives so he doesn't make a loud announcement using the crystals.

Instead, he spends the day around where he's learned some mages meet to teach and learn. Maybe if one of them doesn't seem as busy he can ask for help.

Warden Camp

He also treks his way to the Warden Camp because he knows that they have mages there and tend not to be as distrustful of them. At least, that's what he's heard about them. He's still having trouble remembering all the different factions of Thedas and keeping which ones hate which other groups straight.

It's the first time he's ever been to the camp so he also can't help but feel a level of curiosity. He volunteered to help bring them supplies so his visit isn't too awkward and once he's done unloading it (again wishing for the use of his wand so that he could just float the crates where they need to be) he wanders a little deeper into the camp to see if he can find any Warden mages.

Garahel responds with a happy grunt, running circles around Harry and affectionately bumping up against him. Not hard enough to knock him over, unless he's completely unprepared.

Catching that ball, Inessa smiles proudly. "He is, indeed. They're the signature breed of Ferelden and well-deserving of it. I've yet to meet another breed as intelligent or capable as they." If that's what it means to be a 'dog lord', then she'll accept that happily.

"I think I once knew a great black dog that would give them a run for their money," Harry said thoughtfully. "But it wouldn't be a very fair comparison, as the dog was my godfather in animal form." Talking about Sirius really never doesn't hurt, but at least the pain is now a dull ache rather than a drowning wave.

"Mages here turn into animals too, don't they?" he asks, looking over her clothes and any weapons she might have nearby curiously to see any sign that she's a mage. He thought by offering that he knew and cared for people who had magic he might help ease any understandable suspicion that would arise from asking for mages.

Inessa wears simple Grey Warden armor, not robes, but she notices the look and nods over, to the staff propped up against the log not too far away. "They do, and they're called shapeshifters. It's a form of magic not practiced in the Circle; no doubt because it would make escape rather easy. But it's well-known among Chasind, Avvar and other societies not influenced by the Chantry. I have not decided on that path yet, but...it is tempting. I can see the advantages. Are you a shapeshifter yourself, then?"

Harry looks relieved when she identifies herself as a magic user. He shakes his head. "No," he admits. "Where I'm from shape shifters are called Animagus and becoming one is a bit... tedious. You're supposed to register with the Ministry of Magic too, so they can identify you in either form." Not that Sirius had ever done that.

"Still, it's nice to know some of the magic is the same. Otherwise it feels very... different."

"The Ministry of Magic...you're from Hermione's world, aren't you?" Inessa's smiles, brightening a little since she can only imagine how lonely it must be to arrive in a world without anyone at all. Hopefully he's a familiar, friendly face. "We tend to keep similar hours in the library." Because of course they do. Nerd mages find their own. "I'm Inessa, of the Grey Wardens, and...well, you heard my companion's name before mine."

Garahel perks up and barks, probably used to that.

He grinned widely at the mention of Hermione. "I am. She's one of my best mates. She's saved my life more times than I can count and stopped me from going completely mad more than that. I'm Harry. It's nice to meet you."

He moved closer and offered his hand to her to shake. He seemed even more relieved to find she was on good terms with Hermione, if her smile was any indication.

Inessa smiles and shakes his hand. "Likewise. I do not claim to know her well, yet, but her cleverness and love of knowledge has not escaped me."

Garahel, watching them, lifts a paw for Harry to shake. Inessa just shakes her head. "He's just hoping you have treats."
