Player Plot: Unwanted Houseguests

WHO: Fenris, Aleron, Bethany, Korrin, Inessa, Church, Saoirse, and Ellana
WHAT: Getting rid of some nasty visitors... and a little demony surprise twist on top of that! (OOC Post)
WHEN: Close to the end of Bloomingtide, we'll go with the 29th
WHERE: Fenris' mansion in Hightown
NOTES: This is slightly forward-dated to the end of the month. See directions below about groups and things! As for warnings, uhhh... bad interior decorating?

The manor stands in Hightown, Kirkwall's high class area where the nobles live. Fenris had intended to step in and reclaim it when he'd first arrived in Kirkwall, but there were... complications. Major complications. He's had to do quite a bit of sneaky surveillance to find out what was even going on. As he uncovered more over the course of the month, it only made him angrier. A magister had seen fit to move on in and take over while he'd been away. To make matters worse, he's brought along a bunch of slavers, and they've really started making themselves at home as they use the house as a base of operations.

Now that Fenris has all of the information, he's more sure than ever that this has to be dealt with. Immediately. It's more than he can handle alone, though.

So he asks around and finally gathers a group together to deal with it...

Group 1: Fenris, Aleron, Bethany, and Korrin

This group will be going in first! They'll make their way through the house and generally deal with taking down slavers. There's another subthread for the initial battle against the magister and his followers.
Group 2: Inessa, Church, Saoirse, and Ellana

After a rift erupts and Fenris makes a distress call over the crystals, these folks will be joining in. Now it's a matter of fiiighting all the demons, and making sure that rift gets sealed. (It's all on you, Church!)

Demons. It couldn't have gotten much worse, really. It's all felt like some awful repeat of the past, so sure, why not, throw some demons in too? Fenris has definitely had enough at this point.

He activates his Lyrium Ghost state, nearly fading from sight as it goes into effect. With that renewed, he slashes at the closest rage demon, wasting no time in getting his momentum back. He just hopes that help will arrive soon... he's not so sure they can last much longer at this rate.

That call for help is soon answered, in the form of a mage and her mabari. As Garahel charges, Inessa casts Pull of the Abyss to draw any local demons to that central point. That will be followed up with Veilstrike, to knock them down. A promising start, but she's not about to let down her guard.

Church...realizes pretty quickly that he's the only one with a shard in this whole thing, and there's no time to call for any other backup. Shit, they're not supposed to be able to pain laser a rift closed by themselves, but...what the fuck else is he gonna do, sit on his god damn thumbs?

He just has to get close enough first. Church has no magic and no super special video game abilities. He just has his sword. And the little shield from his shard. Well, that's one super special video game ability, but c'mon, does that really count? "Cover me," he orders, even if he's in no position to really order anyone for shit, moving in. Any demons of reasonable size in his way he'll take a slash at, but he wants to save his energy if he can to maneuver as close to the rift as he can.

Fenris had almost thought they wouldn't be able to reach anyone... that the distress call would fail entirely. He's deeply relieved when he sees the others incoming to join them. That feeling is even better when he notices the glowing green shard in one of their hands. What a relief... now there's a chance to close that rift. He finds himself feeling very renewed as he lunges to strike at the nearest demon.

There's no time to thank anyone right this moment though. That'll come later.

For now, to deal with the problem at hand. Demons are all over the place, and the rifter needs to get through. The only good part at the moment? Is that even the magister is preoccupied by the demons too, in all of this chaos.

"Right! Do as he says!" Fenris immediately phases once more into his eerie, glowing ghostly state as he slashes at the nearest demons, trying to draw and keep their attention.

"On it!" Inessa gestures for Garahel to do just that, the large mabari bounding over to attract any demons' attention away from Church and toward him. He's protected by the barrier Inessa cast, and thus reassured she turns her attention to finishing off what demons remain nearby. Whatever demon nearest Church that isn't distracted by Garahel will be hit with a Misdirection Hex.

Oh cool, that actually worked. He doesn't care what Araceli fears, sometimes it's good to be a Rifter. Doesn't mean this is going to suck any less. Church maneuvers around the hexed demon--he could waste time fighting, or he can close it now so more don't show up. It sucks as a choice, but the choice is clear.

Also clear is a patch through the bad guys and demons enough that he's close enough to do this. Or try to do this. So long as they watch his back. Y'know, so he doesn't get stabbed in it. He'd prefer not getting stabbed in the back. Or the front. Or at all, if it can be helped. He steadies himself, feet planted, takes a breath, and raises his hand. The bolt of green from it is a familiar shock to the system; he just hopes it's enough.

If he were told before all of this that he had to rely on a person from another world with a magical glowing hand... Fenris would have scorned the idea on principle. He's still not sure how he feels about the matter of people falling from the sky. But they've gradually proven themselves not to be demons, which is the important thing here. They didn't ask for the shards, similar to his own power.

The distractions seem to be doing their job so far... but will it be enough? Fenris slashes at demons one by one, confusing them as his swift ghostly form moves around them.

There's a sudden surge of power as the rift reacts to the shard's energy slamming into it... that surge bursts out toward the demons, stunning them for a moment. The rift isn't quite closed- yet- but it appears that this is making a difference already. Another round or two ought to take it out... right? So he hopes. He's never seen a rift sealed before, only heard about it.

"They're weakened..." He stabs eagerly toward the nearest terror demon, watching it fade away after a couple of blows. But, of course, the stunned moment ends soon enough... and more demons burst through, already on the attack, sparing no one in the group. Fenris groans as a rage demon's fiery attack blazes at him. "We must buy him more time!"

"Then we will!" Inessa only had time to set down an array of ice mines in front of herself before the demons snapped out of it and more appeared. She lures them towards her with a few blasts from her staff, only for the mines to be tripped and encase the nearest ones in ice. Garahel leaps at those who managed to escape that fate, keeping them focused on the large mabari and not the rifter with the shard.

The snap of power zaps his hand as surely as anything else, and he pulls back with a yelp. Better for him to pick up and move, ducking out of the way of a demon still shaking off the stun before slamming his sword into it. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of the chaos, but he sees where people are generally aiming to get their traps and distractions going and sets himself back up, rooting himself back to the floor for another mano y mano round with the rift. Just a little more.

Fenris focuses on the demons nearby, slashing, whirling and striking again and again. All the while, he's taking care to draw the demons away from the area of the rift... moving purposefully to draw their attention. He cries out to taunt them, using this ability to urge them further toward him. As his sword sinks into another, he sees it shudder and fade away. A terror demon takes that moment to attack, hitting him hard. Staggering, Fenris growls and hits it in return.

The rift is again affected by the shard's energy, pulsing as it hits. It's not fully closing yet... but it definitely wavers more as Fenris takes down another demon. Right... if they want this thing closed, they need these demons gone. "We must finish them all off! Hurry!" He uses his Second Wind ability to boost his fighting, regaining some much-needed stamina. Another demon is soon gone after that... he's just got one very angry rage demon to finish off now.

Just after Fenris is struck, Inessa responds with a healing spell. She can't afford to have him drop while faced with such stakes, after all. Then she turns her attention to the demons rushing her and smirks as they become encased by ice. Stonefist shatters one, and the rest are bombarded with energy from her staff before they can respond. Ice flies everywhere, forcing Inessa to shield her face with her arm.

"Guys...guys, I don't want to alarm anyone, but if we could pick up the--"

He sinks heavily to a knee, weakness striking him as slow and draining as the rift is closing. "Oof. The pace. Pick up--" Church pulls his hand away from the rift again, only to put up his small glowing shield of energy. Ice particles thwack against it, bouncing or otherwise sliding to the floor. "Nice," he says about the shattered ice show with a tired, lopsided smile.

"Fasta vass," Fenris swears under his breath. All of this has gotten too out of hand too fast... He'd expected they'd be up against a lot of powerful magic and such, but a rift and demons? Really? Fenris is glad for Inessa's spell, though. Much as he'd hate to admit it, it was needed at the moment.

It gives him enough strength now to phase out, glowing, striking the rage demon with renewed energy. The demon shudders, but renews its attack for a moment, a huge burst of fire flaring out at the whole group. Fenris doesn't back down, despite the heat. He keeps on the demon, dealing a downward blow, feeling it finally collapsing under his attack.

He glances now to see if Inessa needs help. The sooner these demons are cleared, the sooner Church can close that rift.

Inessa's barrier holds against the flame, fortunately, but the demons are putting up enough of a fight that Garahel and herself haven't finished them off by themselves. She encases one in ice, then fires at her staff. When Garahel pauses in his carnage to guard his mage, she'll down a lyrium potion to bolster her flagging strength.

"Draw them to me, Fenris!"

They'll end this, either with ice or a bunch of nasty hexes.

"On it!" Fenris follows that with a Taunt at the remaining demons, uttering a long string of further Tevene curses as he works to draw and keep their attention... before leading them on, toward Inessa.

He uses Bolster next, regaining some much-needed stamina as he attacks the demons from his side... they're effectively trapped between him and the mage now.
