"Oh quite a lot! It has been so long since we last spoke! Why, the last time we spoke we were still at Skyhold!"

He laughed and the mabari stood so he could sniff at her hand then give her a lick before sitting there looking expectant. Obviously she was supposed to pet him now.

"That's true." Her eyes leave the mabari for a moment, but when she looks back, she smiles and starts petting. "I guess our duties and other things have kept us busy. I've traveled a lot, in the hopes of uncovering more elven ruins, but they're not always easy to find and I've been in a dry spell lately. So I've been sticking around here, hoping I can improve some skills. What about you?"

"Well I certainly have this one now. I helped to obtain the nuggalopes. Ah and I went on that trip to the Deep Roads in search of Hero of Ferelden. A great deal has happened it seems." He chuckled softly then set his things aside since he would be busy talking with her for the time being. "What skills does it take to find these ruins, by the way?"

"Those nuggalopes look like big softies." But she has her halla so she doesn't need one for her own. "A lot of it is just looking at documents to see where someone's written down the location, but one time I actually had to follow cryptic clues to find the final resting place of a legendary blade that belonged to my people. Sometimes ruins are nothing more than a piece of stone wall that survived, but everything else is gone. There's some wandering involved too. But I don't mind. I like to wander."

"A blade, hm? Is there anything special about the blade? Is it magical?" He was curious to say the least. There wasn't much he knew about Elves but he was always eager to learn when they were willing to provide.

"Yes, it was. But then it was cursed by spirits. When my team and I came across the broken pieces, they wanted to be found. The world has changed since it was last used, and its story needed to be told. It hasn't been reforged, but copies can be made if anyone wants to wield a blade as beautiful as the original Sulevin Blade." It had a sad history, and one that was a blemish on the record of the elves, who always like to weave a tale of constant oppression and no wrong doing.

"What did the original look like? Are you able to show me? Or draw an image to do so?" She wasn't sure if she could or not but he knew it at least didn't hurt to ask. If nothing else he figured she could always just refuse him if it came to that. He wouldn't mind really. This was a part of the history of her people so it was her choice if she shared it or not.

"Do you happen to remember the broken pieces of a sword up on the wall of the Great Hall in Skyhold? That was it. If not, I have a drawing." Ellana often carries a journal with her, and she's sketched it in there.

"I'm not a very good artist, but..." She takes out the journal and skims through sketches of murals from elven ruins alongside her notes before coming to the page and showing him the two handed sword her people call the Sulevin Blade.

Though he remembered he still leaned over to look at what she'd sketched. It was a truly magnificent blade to be sure. Iskandar took a moment to admire the drawing a moment longer before speaking.

"It is beautiful! Truly unique. It would stand out beautifully compared to other blades."

"I agree! The craftsmanship of my people is unique, and these were the elves of the Dales, hundreds upon hundreds of years ago." She closes her journal and sets it beside her. "If you ever want to consider it for a weapon, the blacksmiths can make copies of it."

"I might consider it! I had been considering a weapon of this world. If I am living here then it would make sense that I use the weapons of this world too." Iskandar chuckled even as he patted his sword. It was reliable but if this was currently his home then he should use what this place offered to him.

"You've settled in really well!" Ellana says with bright smile. He isn't the only one, of course, but others seemed to cling all the more tightly to the ways of their own worlds. Ellana can't blame them, and she loves learning about their worlds too, but it can't be easy for them.

"Well this is my home presently. It would only make sense for me to settle in while I am here!" He laughed brightly. Already he'd started wearing the clothes of this land so why not use the weapons of it as well? "It would be silly for me to call this my home then not use anything here."

"It's just that not a lot of rifters would consider this to be their home, that's all. But I should have known you would. From the moment we met, you took everything in stride and never seemed out of your element." If only others could follow his example while they were here, then maybe some would be less grumpy.

"It is simply a new place to learn and grow in. Actually plenty of it is rather similar to the time I lived in so it really wasn't that much of a challenge to adapt. You should see the time I was summoned into. That is truly what one would call a culture shock!" He laughed at that but he really meant it. This world and the time he lived in were nothing compared to the modern world.

"I love learning new things! And I think you never stop, no matter where you are or how settled you become. There will always be more to experience if you just go out and look for it." If she manages to shorten that into something catchy, it could be her motto. She's already grown so much since joining the Inquisition. Her wide-eyed optimism has been tested again and again, and though she's hardly lost it, with age and experience comes wisdom and she likes to think she's matured since all this began. She still makes mistakes, and that's something she wants to curb as much as she can. The bandages wound around her arm under her sleeve where her tattoo is currently being removed is proof of her not thinking ahead and making rash decisions. With time, hopefully she'll learn better.

"I'll bet you'll have a lot of that now with the new job, right?"

"Learning? Oh indeed. But it will be worth it. Still, I understand the value of stepping away for a moment to relax which is why I'm out here writing music instead."

He waved to the papers he'd been messing with earlier, a proud grin on his face. He figured why not start writing something new now? It had been one of his favorite pass times when he'd been conquering. A great way to keep the mind active while relaxing it too.

"Oh, music! For what instrument? Or is it lyrics you're writing?" Whatever the case, Ellana does enjoy music, though the only instrument she can play is the lute. She has a flute, but that was a gift and she really can't do anything with it but make ear-splitting sounds.

"I have not figured out the lyrics just yet but I hope to have it for the harp when I have finally obtained one!" And now that he was a Division Head, he knew that he really would have to get one so that he might have it to help him think better as a leader.

"I could hum what I have thus far for you though."

Ellana claps her hands together excitedly. "I would love to hear it!" And though he's writing it for the harp and not the lute, maybe one day he'll write something she can play on her instrument of choice.

He smiled brightly then organized the sheets so they were in the right order. With that he started to hum. His voice was deep but soothing, perhaps to do with the song he was writing. It was clear though that he had musical talent and was quite good at this as he flowed through the song until it came to an abrupt stop.

"Ah, I'm still deciding how to finish it."

Ellana sits with her fingers knitted together and around her knees, smiling faintly as he goes on. It's a pretty tune, and she can hear the uniqueness of it. That is, she isn't reminded of any other tune while hearing this.

When he finishes, she claps her hands. "I like how it goes so far. You have talent."

He laughed a bit. It was always nice to get praise for this hobby of his that he so thoroughly enjoyed. Anyone would love appreciation for the things they loved, after all.

"I hope to write parts for other instruments as well. And words for a singer too."

"If you ever feel inspired, I play the lute and would definitely play a song you wrote. That is, if it's not too difficult." She seems to have reached a plateau in her playing, and sees no need to go beyond it.

"It's been good catching up with you, and seeing what you've been up to. But I should probably get going and let you get back to your composition."

"The lute? Certainly! I think it would fit in well with this. The sound would be very fitting." He grinned at her then gave a wave of his hand.

"Farewell my friend. I will let you know when I figure out a part for you in this piece. After all, I should like to play with you at that time."
