WHAT: Back in Kirkwal after the dragon fight, and Elros is remembering how annoying having "parents" around can be. Help a man sneak out for an unsupervised drink?
WHEN: the latter half of December
WHERE: Kirkwall
NOTES: probably nothing, but there may or may not be family drama.

For the Family - YOU ARENT MY REAL DAD

Elros glares, paces the floor agitatedly and snarls at the confinement.

"It's a scratch! Galadriel was away, Master Anders did a good job, I'm healed! I'll not be confined to my room like a child!"

For the Neighbours and those passing by - 90 is too old to be sneaking out the room, right?

It's taken him a full two days, and Elrond would shake his head at him if he knew, but he's finally managed to wrangle time alone without one of his kinsmen in the room, and its the work of a moment to pick the lock and sneak into the corridor. The yelling and throwing things probably was heard by all around, so Elros is hoping no one is actually here to see him slide silently across the hallway, wincing as he steps on a loose floorboard and it creaks.

Maybe tomorrow he'll try climbing out the window instead.

Tavern

He's laughing, open, friendly, sharing a drink or a tale or a song or a game of dice, totally forgetting that he was meant to be quiet and careful, so as not to be found out.

"Hello stranger! Come and join us!"

Training Fields

Normally, he'd have stayed away for a little while longer, but Anders' magic healing has left him itching in his skin. He has no ship to sail, and the fishermen can only sometimes be persuaded to take him out, so the training fields it is, the longsword singing in his hands as he pushes himself.

Elros glares, kicking one of the chairs in agitation.

"I am mortal and of age and you cannot keep me in here like a child!"

He catches the chair to keep it upright, lips pursing.

"It's not about you being a child..." though it sort of is, "I respect your bravery, Elros, but I do not wish to lose you. What you did was thoughtless. I expect better from you."

"I killed my first wyrm when I was eighteen do not treat me as some callow youth! I knew what I was doing!"

"Which frightens and saddens me." Maedhros sits down in the aforementioned kicked chair, "You have a family."

"You were the one who said Elrond and I needed to learn! I learnt. Isn't that what you wanted You sent me away, you have no right to dictate to me now!"

[castintoflames]

"I sent you away for your own good." he frowns and leans forward, "Do you think we wanted to let you and Elrond go?"

He growls, but softens, just a little.

"I know you did not. But you did Maedhros. I am my own Man now - not your ward."

[castintoflames]

"I do not see you as my ward." his voice quiets, "I see you as my foster-son; one I value over some damned dragon."

[tar_minyatur]

Elros sighs.

"I know, and I love you too. But even so, I'm an adult, Maedhros. It is my choice to make."

[castintoflames]

"As an adult, please remember that you are loved. Needed." he gazes at him piercingly.

[tar_minyatur]

"You will have to get used to me not being here eventually, you know." He says, gently.

"My going out and fighting notwithstanding."

[castintoflames]

"I won't." he grimaces and looks towards the door, "But Kano will."

[tar_minyatur]

"By what he says he already has." Elros says practically.

"So that leaves you. You let me go, Maedhros. You have to follow through to the logical conclusion, now."

[castintoflames]

"Poor Kano." he whispers, eyes haunted and distant, "Why can I not keep part of you, at least, in my heart? Why can I not grieve your passing daily? Those left behind must suffer that burden."

"Because I don't want you to." He frowns and pokes him meaningfully.

"I want you to get better, not mope for all eternity."

[castintoflames]

"But how can anyone endure a night without stars?" he brushes his fingers through Elros's hair.

[tar_minyatur]

"Don't be melodramatic." But he leans into the fingers.

"I'm not saying to forget me, for goodness sake. Just not to mope."

[castintoflames]

"I think you might ask too much of me. I have been...moping..." his lips twist in subtle amusement, "...since before you were born."

[tar_minyatur]

"So clearly, it is time for a change!"

[castintoflames]

"I must learn to forgive myself." and that is a monumental task.

[tar_minyatur]

"Not a bad place to end, but I could suggest you try 'not dwelling' on everything for everything!"

[castintoflames]

"So says the one who has the memory of a Man." Maedhros knocks his knuckles lightly against Elros's head.

Elros grins up at him.

"Useful thing that."

"I imagine." he huffs, "I would like to forget some events!"

"Elrond says you can remember but should not dwell." Elros says sagely and grins.

"Clearly, you should listen to my brother more."
