Cyril was pleased with how many had wanted to help with this party. Christine had offered to distract both Kirk and Sam. Adasse had put together some tasty potatoes. Korrin had arrived to help arrange furniture to use the space better for a crowd and had brought spiced wine and sweets. Anders had helped with decorations.
They had done well, even with the food shortage, and the house smelled inviting thanks the the work of everyone coming together.

Eventually she'll approach Jim herself with the box to hand it off, but after that she'll be observing the party by and large. Anyone who approaches her she'll speak to, but she'll only approach someone if they happen to be near the food and she wants to get at it.

"I'm so glad you made it! Did you want me to get you anything? Something to drink perhaps?"
no subject
"I'm okay right now, but you don't need to trouble yourself, I can get it myself."

"I might have picked up on it faster if you'd opened with 'how are you doing?' yes. I'm okay. This is really nice, what you've done for Kirk and Sam." She hesitates a beat on the second name, she's heard Sam mentioned once or twice, but never met him.

"And you think so? I'm glad. I hope they are enjoying themselves."

"I think they are. It's a nice reminder, the friendships they've built since coming here." That's how she sees it, anyway. That so many want to celebrate something with Kirk and Sam, she understands the appeal.

"I guess so. You're... Dalish, aren't you? I haven't actually spoken to that many of your folk." If she really thought about it, the only dalish elf she'd actually spoken to previously was Sina. She's not great at making friends.

He hoped he hadn't scandalized her to much with his earlier display with Samouel - which totally had not been planned. This is why he hated surprises. He wasn't sure he had even told Rey he was with someone, not that it mattered, but still. What a way to find out.

"I am," Rey replies to his question, smiling. "This is the first li--Name Day celebration I've ever been to, so I haven't got much for comparison, but I like it."

"Birthday," Kirk supplied for her, his lips twitching in an amused smile. "Name Day, Life Day, whatever you call it - I'm glad you came out to celebrate. Good company goes a lot further than any trinket. Hopefully we set the standard."

"I know enough that presents can still be appreciated. These you can share, though. I made them myself, with some direction from the kitchen staff." Inside the box are two dozen simple butter cookies, which have been shaped to look like simplified blasters. The cookie cutter that made the shape, which is obviously something Rey hand-made, is also in the box.

Kirk took the box curiously and popped it open to peer inside. He let out a bark of laughter when he saw the cookies, taking one and holding it up, inspecting the shape. He grinned brightly at it, like a kid discovering a new piece of candy. He turned the cookie at Ray, pointing it towards her and cocking his wrist back like he had fired it.
"Bang!" he chortled before taking a bite out of the barrel of the cookie. "These are great, Rey. Thank you so much!"

"I couldn't get a real blaster working, I was hoping these would be a somewhat acceptable substitute. Happy birthday, Jim."
