WHO: Kain and OPEN
WHAT: Kain gets some very interesting whiskey to try out
WHEN: Now-ish

It's one of those chilly nights that's better spent inside. Kain has been more or less stuck in the area since getting snowed in. Conditions around the city are improving, but it's still not great to return to the mountains. So, of course, it's time to bust out the strong drinks.

He's brought a few drinks of his own along this evening, including one that he'd picked up at some point during the travels to Nevarra. Labeled Dragongut alongside a drawing of a dragon, it was mysterious when he bought it, and it's just as peculiar now. Apparently it's some sort of whiskey though. He's got to admit, he's interested. So, he pours himself some, drinking it straight without mixing anything else in.

"Ah, that's... strong. Strong, but good..." He suddenly makes a face, eyes widening as he's hit with a weird indigestion sensation. There's no use holding it back for long. He gets up abruptly and backs away, opening his mouth wide as an impressive burst of flames very suddenly blasts out. The whole display only lasts a couple of moments at most, and fortunately doesn't catch anything... but it's definitely not an everyday sight in the gallows at dinner.

Elros also looks at the bottle, and there is a bright light of mischief in his gaze.

"Probably. We should also bring things to test the intensity of the flame on, methinks."

"That's a good idea... if there's anything particular that you'd like to bring along, feel free. I'm open to anything... that won't potentially destroy us all, of course."

But he's very curious to see if these flames behave like true fire, to see what will happen against random but ordinary objects.

"Oh, of course." He says virtuously. "Wouldn't want anything to explode or... you know. Set fire to anything important."

Like the tavern.

"We could start with the basics? Paper, Straw, Wood?"

"Exactly. I wouldn't want to be responsible for the repairs, after all." That's definitely something he isn't prepared to deal with anytime soon, or more like, ever.

He nods thoughtfully. "Those would be good. They're things which burn easily enough... and we don't want to toss anything too valuable in there, after all."

"It's a good tavern. Wouldn't do to upset the proprieter." Elros agrees, and grabs a few scraps of the table.

"Or anyone else's property! After you, sir?"

"Certainly not... I'm not one for making a scene anywhere, regardless. So... anyway, yes. Let's head out."

Kain has an eager expression overall as he picks up the bottle. It may have startled him the first time, but now... now he can't wait to figure out exactly what he'll be capable of doing with this stuff.

Experiments with fire are always fun.

"I suppose near a water through will do for prevention of spreading flames - shall I toss and you attempt to blast?"

“Right… we do want to come into this prepared, that’s a good idea.” He doesn’t know if this will get out of hand, after all. Kain nods agreement to the idea. “If you’re comfortable tossing things, of course… I don’t know how much precision I’ll have with this, after all.”

If only he actually were a dragon, in full control of such a power… He’ll have to do his best to take a very careful aim.

But if he were actually a dragon, Elros would feel compelled to check if he was evil, and maybe kill him, and that would be sad!

"I am sure your aim is not that bad." He says cheerfully. "And I am good at ducking. What shall we sttart with?"

It would be quite the unfortunate turn of events. Though Kain can't help but envy the dragons in certain ways. Such power, but also grace while flying through the air...

"We'll see soon enough, I suppose. I'll try my best. Hm... we ought to start with something very simple, but not too dangerous."

Elros would rather an Eagle, for that!

"Paper then." Elros decides, folding the paper into several large balls. "It burns fast - and goes out just as fast."

He takes a few steps back and then grins.

"Ready when you are."

"Right... when I make a move to blast, have that paper in place. Here goes."

He takes a swig of the whiskey, making a bit of a face as he feels it go down. It burns, it burns so strongly, but he makes himself just deal with it... He makes a gesture at Elros for the paper, and then opens his mouth, the flames starting to strike out...

Elros waits and then...

"Here we go!"

He tosses each crumpled ball up into the path of Kain's breath, one after another, watching eagerly to see if they will catch fire, or if the flame is no more than a pretty light show.

As Kain holds his mouth open, that fire bursts out, burning intensely as it strikes the papers in turn, one by one. Kain finds he can keep the fire going for quite a bit, letting out a few random bursts after that initial flame. Each subsequent bit of flame gets less and less intense, until it finally dissipates entirely.

“Not bad…” Kain watches the crumpled papers as they continue to burn. It’s not a huge amount of flame, and one of the papers is already completely extinguished, charred black from that fire.

Elros whistles softly.

"Not bad at all. Based on the way the paper's burning, that's a decent flame, although not the hottest. Doubt it's anywhere close to actual dragon intensity. Bet you could give someone a nasty surprise on the battlefield though."

Kain nods agreement as he watches it. He didn’t think they could possibly harness the full might of the dragons, though it’s impressive anyway, admittedly, that this much is even possible. He wonders about the drink’s origins, who could have possibly made it, and is there more out there? He’ll have to be sparing with what he’s got.

“It certainly would take any enemy by surprise. I’m looking forward to testing it out. I can’t use it every time, but it’ll be worth it, against an especially tough foe, or one I know to have fire vulnerability…”

"I think we had probably best save the rest." Elros hums. "I'm guessing you only have the one bottle? Although I'd love to play around with it more, this seems to valuable to waste!"

He considers. "You could also aim for eyes or face in general, if they were not wearing a helm. People will protect that, instinctively."

"Just the one, I'm afraid, and I'm in agreement. It seems it was a one of a kind item, truly rare... it's enough to know what it can do, and that I have some ability to control it... to an extent, anyway." Just drink, open his mouth and point it in the right direction, and blast. Simple enough, really.

He nods as he considers the strategy. "I'll certainly take them surprise when I do that. It should work well. Some enemies are bound to be weaker to fire, too... that should come in especially useful against those."

Elros nods.

"I wonder if you could store it in another form of wineskin, or similar - a bottle is a little risky to cart around, especially on a battlefield!"

“It certainly is,” Kain nods in agreement, thinking about the potential for it to smash and spill all of its contents. That could be more danger than it’s worth, too, considering… The fire is all too likely to spread, that way. Potentially. “I have something that would work perfectly. We Wardens travel a lot, and so it’s practically part of the uniform, to have a good wineskin to bring along. I’ll see about transferring some of it to that. Carefully, of course.”

"Just make sure you mark the right wineskin." Elros grins at him wryly.

"Or someone might get a nasty surprise, one day." In the after battle scramble, it would be too easy to grab without looking, after all.

"Yes, that's one surprise I don't want to spring on anyone while settling into camp..." The Wardens need to work on their reputation as it is, he doesn't need to make things any worse. "Still, I think this should work out very well. What a worthwhile purchase this turned out to be."

"A worthwhile one, definitely." Elros grins.

"Almost enough to make a body envious, but then, you don't want too much of this stuff going around either."

"No, we certainly don't need this to become too commonplace… the surprise of it is important, after all. Still, I'll have to see about tracking down the merchant if I return there someday… in the event that I ever do end up wanting more…" What he has should last a long time, though, as long as he's careful about it.

"Best of luck with that!" Elros nods. "If you do, by the way, what sort of cost are we talking?"
