It's one of those chilly nights that's better spent inside. Kain has been more or less stuck in the area since getting snowed in. Conditions around the city are improving, but it's still not great to return to the mountains. So, of course, it's time to bust out the strong drinks.
He's brought a few drinks of his own along this evening, including one that he'd picked up at some point during the travels to Nevarra. Labeled Dragongut alongside a drawing of a dragon, it was mysterious when he bought it, and it's just as peculiar now. Apparently it's some sort of whiskey though. He's got to admit, he's interested. So, he pours himself some, drinking it straight without mixing anything else in.
"Ah, that's... strong. Strong, but good..." He suddenly makes a face, eyes widening as he's hit with a weird indigestion sensation. There's no use holding it back for long. He gets up abruptly and backs away, opening his mouth wide as an impressive burst of flames very suddenly blasts out. The whole display only lasts a couple of moments at most, and fortunately doesn't catch anything... but it's definitely not an everyday sight in the gallows at dinner.

"Kain! Are you--what was that?!?"

"I have..." He clears his throat. It feels ok, maybe a bit, well, unnaturally warm, but there doesn't seem to be actual lasting damage. It just feels sort of like the burning sensation of hard alcohol amplified. "...no idea. I certainly didn't expect that."

Garahel perks up and barks at this idea, tail wagging.

She does take note of when Kain hastily gets up and her hackles rise. Is someone coming to fight him? Kill him? She better not be in the way of that. But when the flames shoot out of his mouth, Minka dives under the table with hardly a sound, lest he turn his head towards her and roast her alive. (He's actually too far away to do that, but she's not about to take the chance to find out.)
Only when she's sure it's all clear does she peek out from under the table, then crawls back out with a scowl.
"Are you trying to kill somebody? I was sitting right here!"

“My apologies for that, I… didn’t expect such a reaction at all.”
That’s what he gets for drinking a mysterious whiskey he bought from a shifty merchant. But to be fair, fire-breathing isn’t one of the reactions he expected to happen.

"I can assure you, I'm not contagious. In fact..." He picks up the bottle, holding it up so that its dragon-symbol can be clearly seen alongside the name. "I believe I have the cause of the problem narrowed down."
no subject
"What, the drink made you breathe fire? Like a dragon? What kind of messed up shit is that?"
no subject
"It seems to be a very temporary effect, at least... but an incredible one. Emulating dragons isn't such a bad thing, after all... they have such power and majesty..." He trails off, realizing he's going too far into that wistfulness, so he clears his throat and returns to somewhat normal. Again. "I wish I knew more about it, though. How it was made, and why..."

Carver's just finishing up his meal, knocking back the last of his drink when he looks up and sees a plume of fire coming out from someone's mouth. Carver nearly spits out his drink, coughing as the flames continue for a long moment. He's just about to look for a pail of water when it finally stops.
"Maker's bloody breath. What was that, man?"

“Ever hear of something called Dragongut Whiskey? Well, now you have, and now we’ve both found out its main effect.”

"I picked it up during that trip to Nevarra. I've always found it worth collecting a liquor here and there whenever we're abroad... but this one is apparently far more unique than I'd have imagined." He pauses. "The merchant I got it from did seem rather... shady."

"Yes... I thought it rare and mysterious enough that I had to try it. Perhaps that was a bad idea... or a good one, considering that it doesn't seem to have any ill effects." He holds it up, looking thoughtfully at the bottle. "Now that I know what it does, it may even be worth springing its surprise on others at opportune moments... hm."

He's never seen anyone actually breathe fire before.
"Whoa! Are you alright?"
no subject
He glances over and finally manages to nod, slowly in case motion makes the fire blaze up again. “I seem to be fine… and everything else around me is in one piece. That’s… better than I might have expected.”
no subject
"That's well. I take it it's not something you normally do then!"

He holds up the whiskey bottle. "It happened after I had a sip of this."

Elros agrees, and eyes the bottle curiously.
"You hear people talking about the burn of whisky, but I never thought to take it literally! I wonder if that happens with every mouthful?"
no subject
"Now that's a good question. I'm willing to test it out again, just to verify... Though perhaps it's better taken outside this time." He'd been lucky to have backed up enough not to have anything in his path this time, be he won't count on being so lucky again.
