I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world...
WHO: Elros and Maglor and you
WHAT: Elros' Sea-Longing is getting worse since he can't put out with the fishing boats in the winter. So he's building a boat, instead. What? This makes perfect sense.
WHEN: Most of the rest of winter
WHERE: a quiet spot in the harbor
NOTES: probably none!
He is no Cirdan, but the Shipwright wasn't about to send the Edain off in boats they did not know, so since War of Wrath ended, Elros put aside the soldiers life to work alongside his men in the shipyards of the Falathrim, learning to build their own ships as well how to sail them. And then he came here.
He has wheedled and charmed the local sailors, worked passage on the fishing boats in good weather enough to be able to claim this small dark corner and provisions enough to start... well. Not a ship. Little better than a raft, in truth. But the Falathrim knew their business, and taught Elros well, who has the blood of mariners in his veins.
Come and find him splitting wood or planning the planks smooth, or perhaps working on the design in the early days. Since he can't afford iron nails, he's using mortise and tenon joints, and slowly over the weeks the little boat begins to take shape. He'll chat to anyone who comes by, and is happy to accept help, or just company. Come late enough in the business and you might smell the tar he's mixing for the caulking. Or maybe you've got some idea where he can buy or work for more materials?
Closed to Maglor
His foster fathers are idiots, but Elros has considered the tales told, and the things not said, and reached a conclusion - Maglor needs to learn how to build a boat of his own. Since Maglor has taken to watching him as if he is going to vanish, this serves two purposes quite nicely.
"See, the joint needs to be tight, so!"
EDIT: Elros is also afflicted with the Blue Cold - feel free to catch him here with that in place

He hums softly, brow furrowing in concentration as he sands the wood a bit to make it juuuust a little tighter fit. He admits only to himself that its rather soothing to work with wood again.
"Better?"
no subject
"Let me see?" Elros runs careful fingers over the join, feeling for irregularities.
"Feels good! You are doing really well."
no subject
He sits back on his heels and watches, waiting for the verdict. It matters to him what Elros thinks. And so he smiles at the approval and praise.
"You were taught well. And you are a good teacher."
no subject
"Lord Cirdan knows his business! Want to see the design?"
no subject
"Isn't that what we're doing? Following his design?"
no subject
"Well yes but I didn't want it to look too much like his you know. No swanships here!"
no subject
Maglor smiles weakly and hums in hesitant agreement. "I would like to see your design then."
no subject
"I'm going to put a dragon head on mine!"
Elros no
no subject
"Elros..." nooooooooooooo
"If you want me on your boat," don't think he's that distracted, "I will sink any boat that looks like a dragon, be it the head or wings or tail."
no subject
"Very well then. What do you suggest instead? A horse, perhaps?"
no subject
"A mighty stallion would suit you well, yonya."
no subject
"I don't know if I can manage a horse but it cant be that hard."
no subject
"I will help. Or...an eagle?"
no subject
"Eagles are more cousin Fingon's thing than mine, I think?"
He bounces slightly on his toes - he has been getting increasingly restless, of late.
"We could do another boat for him... I haven't enough wood to make this one big, but we could probably gather enough to make two or three small ones..."
no subject
"Feathers suit you though, Elros. Eagles are fierce and protective." Like his Elros.
But Maglor nods, humming in agreement. "Two, then. One for us, one for Finno and Nelyo."
no subject
Sindar, and all that.
"It's as easy to build three as two!"
no subject
Maglor smiles with pride. "We can surprise them?"
no subject
"We need another head then - I don't think she'd like a dragon either!"
Although it would be amusing considering what Elros has heard some of his older men call their wives.
no subject
"So horse, eagle, and swan? We could go hunt for more wood?" He can ask the trees to give more branches!
no subject
Elros agrees with a laugh.
"Yes! We'll need plenty more, if we're going to be making three. I can see if anyone will take labor for parts too."
no subject
"Let's see how much more we can get! I'll see if anyone wants to listen to music from strange lands."
no subject
"Yes! I'm sure you can charm them all."
no subject
He flushes shyly. "Perhaps a challenge, yonya? Who brings in the most supplies?"
no subject
"You'll win." He laughs at him. "Who could resist your voice? Oh no. I'm not about to challenge the greatest bard of the Noldor!"
no subject
Maglor grins, eyes bright- brighter than normal. "Spoilsport!" He's not above throwing that back at the man!
