Someone- a Templar and an Inquisition guard- fetch her from her room the afternoon between the conclusion of negotiations and the start of the travel towards Tevinter. They are as stoic as those before them, and they lead Jang to a room in the central of the Gallows' towers, to a meeting room that has, until this point, been unused.
There are chairs for all present, a desk-- Thranduil sits in one, and at the opening of the door gestures Jang to another.
"You may leave us," this, to the guards. If Sers Coupe and Amsel cannot protect them (him) from a little potential abomination, then what use are they?
Jhang has no official division head, but he looks towards Coupe to begin the proceedings. She would have the most experience with this, after all.

"I suppose it's just one of those things with me. I'm not good at letting things lie, allowing people to be hurt. I'm the person who stands in the way. Cause the alternative is to look at someone weaker than you and say 'Yes. I would rather they be hurt instead of me.'" Jang looks over the three people sitting behind the desk. "And that may annoy people, but the powerful are always upset when their punching bags hit back."

His mouth twists with a brief flicker of annoyance. "If you have any desire to actually help people, you will become accustomed to this world and put your time and work into aiding the fight against Corypheus. The Inquisition is the only force dedicated to fighting him, and you are at risk of disturbing the war effort."

She used to have the patience for this. To walk some incautious researcher or indignant recruit through the problems, the plans, the alternatives. Where did that go?
Gone with the Spire, she thinks; gone with imagining it mattered.
"A spirit healer killed hundreds in this very city." If she doesn’t look at Herian, she doesn’t have to recall a conversation not so distant from this; the back of a caravan across dusty ground. "A possessed man, an abomination. However matters once fell, they stand so: The Fade is dangerous, and you have shown it reckless disregard. We need speak of consequence."
"Until you have shown yourself trustworthy, measures will be taken to vouchsafe your behaviour," A short gesture, which she trusts the other two to understand for blood in a jar, thank you. "Remedial instruction upon the nature of this world will be a piece of this. If you wish to work with spirits, you will do so only as a formal member of the Inquisition, under the purview of a division head. If do not abide by these terms, you will be imprisoned and placed on magebane until such a time as the matter is revisited."
"The Ambassador believes it of value that context be explained to you." Does she? Has been committed to it, regardless. Congrats, designated Good Cop. "I see no purpose in doing so, if you do not intend to listen."
Her hands spread.
"Do you?"

"Yah. I hear ya. I don't matter. And if i don't go join you, I won't matter, the only reason you keep me and mine around is cause of these little shards. And the only way I will not be 'No-one' is if I join and start takin instruction from one of you."
The card falls into her pinched fingers, the joker visible. "So yah, I hear ya. I'll join up, do what you say. Won't be the first time I had to take order. I was in the army once. Sorta, kinda got conscripted. So who is the person I'm supposed to be listenin' to? One of you three? Seems a bit rude to foist me off when they're not even here iffin' that isn't the case."
no subject
"The Scoutmaster is in consensus. You are free to choose whichever Division best suits your skills, hers included." The leveling of a palm, "This is not a conscription. You may remain unaffiliated of our ranks, provided that you cease operations in the Fade."
"We are seen by the sum of our action. The world you have come from, the memories you carry — these are immaterial, beside your present deeds. If you wish to be taken for more, I suggest that you prove yourself capable. This needn’t be a threat, but an opportunity."
The threat, of course, remains.

That's not the point, though, and she looks from Coupe to Jang.
"I am uncertain if you speak flippantly for the sake of humour, or with genuine disdain of us. This is not a matter of individuality and personal significance. The Inquisition is made up of many, and just as you will be judged by the actions you take here, so too will the Inquisition, regardless of whether you decide to join us or not. Our cause is an important one, as the Provost said."
And, speaking of— "There are many in the Inquisition who hold rifters in high esteem. The Provost, himself, joined us through a rift, and the result of his actions and hard work within Thedas and supporting the Inquisition lead to his present rank. Not claims to past actions in another world."

Jang squares up the deck of cards again, and with a bit of a flourish, she brings her hands together and the deck is gone. She brings her hands apart slightly as if to say 'ta-da...' and leans back again. "So is that all then? Report to Beleth, remember what you said," She nods to Thranduil. "Do what Beleth says, that about cover it?"
no subject
"Decide," he repeats. "Understanding the full weight of it, and understanding that this means certain things are still forbidden. Because the next time, this cannot be taken so lightly, and if it reaches ears beyond ours, we may not be able to reduce repercussions to a room and a conversation between you and the Division heads. And if you wish to join Scouting, yes. You would report to Scoutmaster Ashara, as well as the head of whatever project you find best suits your skillset."
It is not Coupe's place to say the next part, as impressive as she looks in her armor, nor Herian. His tone softens, he leans closer, makes a personal appeal.
"From one Rifter to another, please remember that your actions reflect on us as a whole. Had the news of what you said come sooner, or spread wider, you may have been pointed to as proof of the instability of Rifters as a group. The negotiations may well have collapsed."
no subject
At this point, though, perhaps she is qualified to add a touch of support. "Though we cannot speak for Rifters, the Commander and I are both well-versed in the ways of the Chantry. It is not only they who could have reacted poorly, but it might have seen phylacteries become a rapid certainty, rather than a matter that could be negotiated. Even now, we must be mindful to ensure that things progress positively, rather than being dragged into the muck."

The odd deck of cards seems to appear in her hand again as she starts to idly shuffle it. "So now what? I assume Steve can get off my back, and I report to Beleth, see what good I can do, hmm?"
no subject
"You will report to Scoutmaster Ashara," firmly, the second time he's issued a correction, this time with a rap of his knuckles against the table, "when she calls for you, and I expect she will give you the overview she gives all arrivals to her Division. You said you have served before; she is your commanding officer."
That must translate between worlds.

Jang pauses for a moment and then says, "That is the Anthem of the Union army and the capital of the Confederacy, respectively. The two forces who've been fighting a civil war for the past 20 years."
She gives a sigh and presses on. "You keep saying that I should know things but when I tell you I don't know them, you never tell me what it is I should know. What HAPPENED here? Did someone...I don't know, bomb the marketplace? Just tell me what is going on!"
Her voice sounds more desperate now, she has been in enough fights to know that bad intel or lack thereof can get you killed. And this whole place is nothing but new information. Fighiting demons from a glowing rift was easy. Just kill em and move on. This is something new, and she can't follow along until someone explains what is happening anymore. She needs answers.
