I just got used to a god-forsaken outhouse. I thought that was as bad as it was going to get.

[She slumps then, teenagerlike. Jesus, but she looks like a disaster.]

So what do you do?

Ohhhh man. If there's one thing I miss a lot sometimes, it's indoor plumbing. Fuck.

Me, I'm a soldier. [Always had been, as far as he's concerned. And as far as he technically remembers, he literally always had been. It's what he knows and what he's familiar with. An easy slot to fill.] I mean, more or less. I'm up with the Forces division of the Inquisition, so I get to guard things, stab things, lift things, do a bunch of grunt work but also be, y'know, soldier-y and forceful.

What I do outside of doing what I'm told to do with only a little bit of mouthing off is...I like learning about the world? And just, like...about this place. Familiarize myself with the issues that are a big deal around here. And I train, work out. Go shopping, normal stuff. Find fun and exciting ways to stay warm at night with the girlfriend. It's...it's weirdly normal once you get used to there being no tech? Which is kind of. alarming. now that I think about it.

It keeps me fed and paid and more or less alive and then I get to do the exciting daring soldier shit and fight monsters that aren't ugly-ass aliens for once. So it works for me.

...I've kinda thought about opening like a pub or a cafe or something, though. Maybe not in the city. I dunno, plans got put a little bit on hold lately.

But honestly, like...pizza? Fried foods. Burgers. We've discovered getting fried food just right is hard when you don't have a proper thermometer to make sure the oil's at the right temperature and then it kind of becomes a guessing game. Someone made pizza rolls once. I'm determined that the next big party we throw, I convince the cooks to make a bunch of pizzas. There's nothing hard about it!

What the hell is pizza roll?

[A pause.]

But we can make dessert pizza?

Uhhh, have you never had pizza bites? You just--you roll up all the ingredients of a pizza into a bitesize bit of dough! It's portable and still delicious! It's like a mini Hot Pocket, but with more pizza.

...I don't see why we can't do dessert pizza, but I feel that one might be harder for them to pull off.
