NOTES: This log contains prompts for the ARRIVAL and RECOVERY of new rifters, which are closed to new rifters and to the characters involved in the catacombs escape/rescue team in the Tevinter plot. It also contains a new QUARANTINE prompt that is open to everyone.

[She thinks about that a moment.]

Do you-

[This is a secret, but they're also in a medieval theme park, so.]

Know about shifters?

[zombra]

Noooope. Doesn't ring a bell. Why? What's that?

[pyrazine]

They're people who turn into animals. Sort of.

[She scratches her head, runs a hand through her hair, and shakes her head. The first change is her ears, which grow, strangely, until they're huge and on her head. Then it's her face, and her arms, which elongate, her skin disappears under red and brown fur, and a moment later she's stretching out her long legs.

She looks like a wolf on stilts, a maned wolf, weird and smelly and looking up at her, and yawns. And then another shake of her fur and she's rearing up, and she's a human again, running her hand through her hair.]

Like that.

[zombra]

[ Tessa's been trying to get used to magic being a thing these last five months, but even though this world has shapeshifters, she honestly had no idea it was a thing. So needless to say, this is her first time seeing something like this, and she takes a step back, muttering "Holy shit," under her breath.

When Luana turns back, Tessa's mouth drops open in shock. And she just... stares for a moment. Finally, she moves forward and holds out a finger like she wants to poke her; like she's not sure she's not hallucinating. ]

Doesn't that hurt?

[pyrazine]

[Luana shakes her hair again, and glinting are a few darker hairs that are the final part of her shift back.]

No?

Only if I stop in the middle. It's like stopping a sneeze.

[That hurts like a bitch, and itches in weird places.]

[zombra]

Oh, man, that would look weird. Like, no offense meant, but it just would.

[ She looks thoughtful for a moment, now more curious than shocked. ]

Is that a common thing in your world?

[pyrazine]

My-

[What is Aluisio? Her boss? Her teacher? She's not sure.]

Weird uncle?

[I guess.]

He wants me to be able to hold between. There are times we need to.

[And a pause.]

Not that common, I guess. Every country has shifters, is what they tell me.

[zombra]

Huh. So it's like, uh, genetic? Or is it magic?

[ She lifts her hands in the air and continues. ]

There's magic here and I don't even get it at all. [ And the hands go back down. ] Like apparently there are rules, and good magic and bad magic that uses blood or something? It's effed up. No, thank you.

[pyrazine]

It's not magic.

[Well, maybe it is. But it's also not.]

I don't know. I guess my dad probably could do it. That's what Aluisio says, anyway.

[zombra]

Yeah, we def don't have shifters in my world. Unless they were like some secret society or whatever.

[ She shakes her head. ]

At least I'll get some things you say? Like our worlds were probably similar, just not the same world.

[pyrazine]

Well, we are.

But you don't have them if they let the voudoun run around without any policing.

[zombra]

Yeeeeah, guess not. Couldn't police those zombies worth a shit.

[pyrazine]

Well they're not supposed to be able to do anything on their own.

[She shrugs.]

Not that I've ever seen one.

[zombra]

I've seen enough to last a lifetime.

[ She rolls her eyes. ]

Just glad to be outta there even if I did end up in Ye Olde Times.

[pyrazine]

[She pauses.]

It's kind of like being in a shitty version of Ouro Fino.

I can't fucking believe that something like that exists.

[zombra]

Um, what's Ouro Fino?

[ She can't even begin to guess. ]

[pyrazine]

It's the shitty town I live in. It's in the middle of nowhere.

[Literally.]

[zombra]

Oh, okay.

[ Tessa was from a city, so she doesn't really know how to relate to small town life. ]

Well, now you get to be in a shitty city. It's honestly not the worst but the people in the Inquisition are from all over and like to trash talk it.

[pyrazine]

Hey.

What is the Inquisition?

[zombra]

Oh, it's this sort of military group that's fighting some creepy asshole who wants to take over the world. They rescue people from the rifts before the other side can get their hands on us and experiment on us.

[pyrazine]

[Her mouth presses together just a little.]

So.

They're decent.

[zombra]

Decent.

[ There's a brief nod. ]

Like they recently got the big religious body here to stop calling us demons, so that's a step up. We're allowed to walk around and make a living and whatever, instead of stuck in prison cells. I'm not gonna say they're the greatest thing ever, but they're fine.
