"Oh, I could do mine. But I prefer to allow a true expert to work his craft in all things. Even in the field of fish deboning."

Boning is a funny word. Val smirks as he tips his chair back, lazy and elegant and casual. He looks right at home among a dinner of many courses and the table settings, and has even dressed for the occasion, ready to show off--a brocade tailcoat cut close in the chest, appointed with gold buttons and gold trim, and a sort of bolero bit in the shoulders that looks like green dragonscale. He's got one arm over the back of his chair, and one leg laid across his knee, irreverent and still so good-looking--even with his hat, which is very Orlesian, a soft velvet dollup with a bejeweled sort of brooch and four blue and green feathers to top it all off.

He smiles, charmingly, first at Colin, and then at the table at large. "If he wants to, and shows an aptitude, I think that should be encouraged, yes? No matter what else we are about today."

"Well I'm certainly not eating it otherwise," comes Benedict's grumbled response, and he absently picks up his plate as if to hand it to Colin, only to set it back down with a roll of his eyes when Bastien swings by.
"Not everyone eats like savages," he observes, poking at it with his tiny fork, which he eventually sets down in favor of tossing his incredibly shiny hair.

"This is a waste of time," he mutters to Val, unable to help smirking at how elaborately the man is dressed: how incredibly Orlesian. He himself, of course, is wearing his Imperium party clothes, with their architectural shapes and gold lining, aided in their splendor by a single ruby earring in his left ear.
"Some of us already know how to behave at a party, but I don't see anywhere to smoke."

Some of us didn't quite get the memo that formal wear was required. Derrica's preoccupied herself with scraping surreptitiously fidgeting with the loose threads at the hem of her tunic, uncomfortable and a little irritated in the midst of everyone else's finery. At least everything she's wearing is clean. Small mercies, perhaps?

"It's not savage to think it's foolish to have this many utensils on the table," is Derrica's contribution. "Or to spend a whole evening on the use of them."

Derrica also knows how to debone a fish, but she has the sneaking sensation that it's impolite to take out her knife to get started on it in this setting.
