A miscalculation (semi-closed)

WHAT: Julius finally gets something he's been working on right at arguably the worst possible moment

NOTES: While the thread with Julius/Miles/Sawbones is closed, all of this happens in public areas, so commentary/heckling/scandalized gasping in side threads is fine if desired. Description of injury possible within, though nothing too gnarly.

It started as a simple discussion about theory.

Julius had been talking to Miles a bit about how mages had shaped and influenced martial strategy in Southern Thedas, and had mentioned that the vast majority of the time, a mage who has gotten into true hand to hand combat is already having a worst time than he intended. Of course, this led to a digression about exceptions, and also what sort of hand-to-hand training Circle mages had or lacked.

Which then led to a discussion of how Julius himself had been working through some leftover notes about a certain style of magic popular in Kirkwall, specifically, and about how it could be used to help overpower a nonmagical opponent while fighting this way, though that would be an adaptation of its initial design. And then, of course, they reached a point where they mutually decided it would be easier to demonstrate what he meant than simply push forward on paper.

All of which seemed very reasonable at the time. They were using staves, after all - nothing with a sharp edge, nothing they would be moving through at any speed. It shouldn't have been unsafe.

Only Julius's attempt to focus telekinetic force on the staff itself, meant to push Miles back a few feet, is rather more successful than Julius intends it to be. He slams the slight rifter into the ground (several feet away, so part of it was what he intended to do).

Rushing over, he's already preparing a basic healing spell before he can even ask if Miles is hurt.

"Well, I'm certainly not going to try to find out on you," he says, with a worried smile. "But... I do think so." He does lead toward the infirmary, heading off the potential that they could get sidetracked on theory at length. He's prepared to let Miles lean on him as necessary, but is also attempting to take him at his word on how badly he is(n't) injured. "Before, I hadn't been getting anywhere at all beyond theory. Now I have a better idea of what I'm trying to reproduce."
