Adelaide (and her students)

When Vivienne arrives early in the morning of Wintersend, it appears to be solely for the benefit of Adelaide's young students. She's so terribly fond of them and many a most promising mages. Gifts are distributed with warmth and smiles: warm cloaks for them all, boxes of sweets as well, books, dresses for the girls, warm tunics for the boys. Frankly, Madame de Fer is spoiling the whole lot of them and she's not the least bit repentant for it. The poor darlings deserve something nice in their lives. She doesn't even flinch or pull away when one of the darlings glomps her for an impulsive hug. Vivienne has become the doting auntie and quite likes it.

Once the excitement of gifts has turned into a whirlwind of activity, trying things on and shoving treats into eager mouths, Vivienne turns her attention to Adelaide. There's a large box waiting to be opened, held in reserve just for her.

"This one is for you, darling."

Spoiled beyond belief and Adelaide- honestly? Is glad to not be alone in her attempts to spoil them. The gloves and books she's managed to wrangle for them felt horribly extravagant- but if Vivienne can swoop in with gowns and cloaks and sweets? It makes her gifts seem reasonable. Adelaide helps a few of the girls lace their way into their new dresses while watching the boys graciously thank their Auntie Vivienne. It is something to see, little Leon hurling himself at her for a hug.

They truly do adore her. That they've come to trust and care for anyone after what they've lived through? Is remarkable.

"Oh?" She sends Sabine on to share sweets with the other girls, peering at the box. "Vivienne you did not need to- seeing to them is more than enough."

Still she is not so foolish as to attempt to ignore the gift, already working it open with careful hands.

"Of course I did. You do so much for them, you deserve a little something for yourself."

Inside the wrapping is a stunning silk gown the precise shade of Adelaide's eyes. It should make them pop in a remarkable way. Lace gloves rest on the top, delicate and light. This is not a winter dress, but it is Wintersend and with the spring will come an opportunity to wear these things.

And then from behind her back, Madame de Fer produces the finishing touch. A bottle of Rowan's Rose. She holds it out wordlessly to Adelaide. The statement is there: this is for the long days. They both know there are many of them.

"If you insist." And Vivienne does, as it so appears, insist and Adelaide isn't one to turn down anyone's most gracious gesture. Gowns her mother had sent but- it has been years since they've seen one another. This? This is something chosen by a woman that knows how she looks, how she stands, has more than the vague shape of what she might be to go off of- and in her mind is infinitely more flattering for it.

The gloves now- delicate things she's never truly had the time or cause to wear before- always working, always teaching. Such things aren't for mages. Well. Not mages like her. "This is- it is beautiful."

Ah there is the smile of a woman pleased with her gift and it brings Vivienne no small amount of joy. Especially since Adelaide gives so much of herself to others, but so seldom takes the opportunity to indulge herself.

"I've instructed Harritt to provide any alterations you might require." Instructed and the man grumbled, but Vivienne silenced him with a glare and a repetition of her instructions. If he heckles Adelaide, there will be more of the same for him. Gowns given as gifts almost invariably needed a little touch up work, par for the course. "I'm so glad you like it, my dear. You deserve beautiful things of your own."

"Before I might have asked 'but when will I have the opportunity to wear them' and then I recall the Council, Orlais, and the game." She will be judged on her wardrobe along with the rest of them soon enough. But with Vivienne as a guide and her family doubtlessly attempting to wrangle some support for the Inquisition on their end, perhaps it would not be quite so dire.

Or she was feeling optimistic due to her students being well pleased and spoiled. Probably the latter. "Thank you, Vivienne. Truly."
