Clan Ashara currently resides in a small valley nestled into the mountains, that seems idyllic for a Dalish clan. A stream runs through the valley, descending into a waterfall with the steep cliffs on one side, and sheer mountain walls going straight up on two other sides. The only way in and out is through a gap big enough to lead several aravels through. It's a defensible position, safe from any threats.

Except the fade rift that has opened up just a little ways from the gap.

The hunters can handle the demons spewing from it well enough, and there are always a couple stationed there to pick off whatever appears. But it's too dangerous to lead the aravels and noncombatants through, and thus, they are forced to wait.

To compound the issue, there's a village close to where they're currently staying, and while both sides have kept to themselves, neither are pleased with the current situation. They've helped get a message to the Inquisition in hopes that someone will come take care of the problem, and now both are tensely waiting for something to happen to change the situation, for better or worse.

And so the members of Clan Ashara, with their friends in tow, return back to their clan.

"No, Nari," Isen says in a tone of feigned apology,

"No, Nari," Isen says in a tone of feigned apology, <i"ir abelas,</i> this is your life now." Still holding her around the torso, he begins to carry her away. "We shall traverse the great sea with your angry legs propelling us, and arrive back home in no time." He winks at the nearby Sina, who grins, rolls her eyes, and steps away to address someone else.

Despite his assurances, Isen eventually sets Nari down, and is even thoughtful enough to brush her off. "How is my sister? You look worldly."

"You'll traverse the great sea when I toss you into it, you great spindleweed," Nari shot back, her eyes glowing happily, anger obviously as feigned as her hunting partner's apology, "If I can even reach high enough to grab you!"

She continues in the same vein until she's finally set down and brushed, whereupon all pretenses are dropped and she surges in to hug him just as tightly, cheek pushed against his chest with a small happy sigh; then steps back and hugs her arms.

"Well, for sure I've seen more of Thedas than I ever thought to," she says, the corner of her mouth quirking. "I spend a lot of my time not killing shem'len, since we're all trying to stave off the rifts together. It was strange, at first, but most everyone in the Inquisition is there to help." Her eyes brighten a bit, thinking of Korrin. "I met a Qunari! She's taller than you, fierce as anything. And Skyhold, the Inquisition's keep? It's... It's beautiful, Isen. Old. Elven. Even let alone as long as it must have been, it's sturdy. Was mostly just the wood that had to be replaced, even though the mountain winds are at it all the time. Sina and I fair took over the garden. It was mostly overgrown, some straggling elfroot, and now? Well." Nari smiled, thinking about the dappled verdant green, the rows and rows of herbs, the hanging vines. "You know how she is with plants."

"I do know," Isen replies distractedly, because he is now too busy thinking about Qunari and how insane it is that Nari has not only met one, but sees her regularly. And there are even TWO of them here, which he never could have imagined! The Inquisition is a truly remarkable organization.
"And everyone lives in relative peace," he asks dubiously, "even the shem?"

"Relative is the key word there," Nahariel replied dryly, "but yes. Even the shem." She crossed her arms. "Personally, I've been looked at with more suspicion by the city-elves." And Cassandra. But the Seeker was nothing but egalitarian with her suspicion.

"It certainly took some getting used to. But everyone who comes to the Inquisition is a little on the odd side. It's not surprising the Inquisition shem aren't all like the ones we've had experience with." She shook her head slightly. "Enough about shem though. Tell me how the family's been doing! Any new sibs?"

Isen looked mildly suspicious-- he'd believe all that when he saw it-- but he was easily swayed from that point of conversation to another. "No, and doubtful there'll be anymore," he replied, but not unhappily. "Mamae's past that point, I think. But the others are chomping at the bit, if you will. They near went mad with jealousy when they found out I'd be coming here." The clan was insular, which meant mostly the same family, which meant no babies unless they either turned to some real unpleasantness or found others.
"Ashara seems nice enough," he observed, "I wonder how they'd feel about a big litter of gingers converging on their eligible unbonded?" A crooked smile.

Nari laugh-snorted, eyes alight with mirth. "Red hair, as far as the eye can see," she intoned, reaching her hand out as if to illustrate a great field on the horizon. "Ashara's a good bunch--all that I've met, at least. Some I'd be happy to see paired up with one of ours. And there's no Clan I've heard of these days that wouldn't want more members, even if they all turn out like you." She dropped into a cheeky mock-fighting stance briefly, then stood again with an affectionate--and slightly conspiratorial--grin.

"You got here a bit ago, right? Met any reasons to legitimize their jealousy?"

It was so good to hear her laugh again-- Isen couldn't help but grin broadly back. He fell back into a mock-fighting stance to mimic Nari's, and feinted a noogie attack, but he let her go at the last moment instead.
"Not yet," he says, "but I've noticed our Siuona talking with their handsome First. Perhaps we'll have mage babies soon enough."
