[Open] Rise Up, Rise Up.

WHO: Katniss Everdeen and Yours
WHAT: Falling, and climbing back up again. In many ways
WHEN: Rest of Wintermarch
WHERE: The stables, the ramparts, the staircases, the healing tents.
NOTES: It's Katniss. You know there's going to be something.

Katniss has been taking all her lessons seriously, but the ones she had been working on most were the rogue lessons - lessons in climbing and sneaking in and out of places. Knife throwing into all kinds of targets. Climbing up and down buildings, and quite literally falling off of them.

No one was quite sure what she was training so hard for -- but then most of them had not been to the Emprise du Lion. They had not seen the cages. Katniss was not going to throw away their only chance to save those people, so whatever she needed to know? She would do.

So don't be surprised if she drops in on you, as she falls back into piles of hay or down in a leap.

Katniss arched an eyebrow at that -- because okay, he had speed down. Let's try moving and accuracy though, hm? She plucked out one arrow and then started moving down the line of targets - pull, aim, fire, pull, aim, fire.

Each arrow thudded in, right in center mass.

Garris raises a brow in turn, giving a shrug as he walks back to the distance she's at. Moving and accuracy isn't that hard for him, starting at the opposite side and hitting each target in the center as well, though just a bit off from where her shafts were.

"Impressive. Can you do that from a horse?"

She whistles, because not many can keep up with her on that. She gives him a more considering look, before she nods. "Of course. It's all about balance in the saddle. That ...I have no problem with."

Odd shoots from upside down? Yeah, hadn't tried those ... yet.

Living off the land at home, Kirkwall, being a mercenary, you learn quite a few things to keep you alive. "Good to hear cause I don't think we've got the space here to try that." He is clearly enjoying himself having not shot against someone else in a bit.

"You're a great shot."

"So are you."

Katniss stated with a warm, impressed smile. "You really know your stuff."

That has Garris snorting lightly in amusement. "I would sure hope so. At my age and after all the things I've been through? You learn a thing or two."

She gave him a more pointed look, her lips pressing together. "What have you had to train for?"

He just raises a brow in return at the look that she's giving him. "When I was a kid it was to put food on the table and furs for trade. As a young man it was to protect a city. A lot of shit happened then. Right now? No matter how I put it I'm still a mercenary."

Something in her shoulders loosened then, before she nodded her head quietly. "That was the same path I was on, before I came here." Food on the table, food for money, and as soon as she and Prim had been able to leave she would have put her bow to use whatever way would keep them moving to someplace ... better.

She looked over at him, before she notched another shot, putting the arrow at center mass. "You know what the worst part is? I told myself, before I went into battle for the first time -- it wouldn't be any different than putting down an angry bear, or wolf. Quick, clean, get it done. And ... I was right."

Notching his own arrow he aims and shoots for a different target, purposely hitting the edge of the outside ring. This was no longer a competition, just motions as they talked. "Well we aren't much different than animals. Just smarter. And with different rules."

She held her bow firm, as she took another shot and let it just sink into the target, high and above his.

"I suppose so. I just ... well. I don't like it. But I am doing my best."

"That's all you can do. Do your best and stay alive." He raises a brow at her arrow before sinking another one into the target this time at the very bottom.

"Easier to think about that we're fighting people who are trying to bring the end to the world."

"Oh, that I can do. I'm still here, aren't I? I've lived through the Fifth Blight, the Fereldan Civil War, the Mage and Templar War, and ... everything in the sky opening and falling down on us. I have survival down."

She snorted darkly, before she let off another shot. This one sank center, and deeper than the others.

"...It is. Better to think of them as my sister's murderers then just ordinary people."

"The only contact I've had to the Blight is everyone who came over and ended up in Kirkwall. Now that was quite the shit show and that was just one city."

Garris snorts at remembering some of the things that happened there, notching another arrow and readying to send it flying. He doesn't though. At hearing about Karniss' sister he pauses then slowly lowers his weapon.

"I'm sorry to hear that. How long ago?"

"I've only heard about Kirkwall." Katniss admitted. "Never been there, seen ... what happened in the aftermath of everything." She looked over at him, her mouth twisting a little.

"Sorry about your city."

Another pause, and a quiet, "Six months. But I don't want to talk about it."

"From what I hear it's still a mess thought it's been some time since everything went to hell. I wouldn't advise anyone making a point to go there unless they had to. Mr. Tethras probably has loads of stories that could easily paint out the kinds of things that went down."

Six months. That wasn't that long ago at all. Sighing, Garris nods. "Fair enough."

"I would love to hear some of Varric's stories about his life there - but not if it made him sad. I can't help but think it would be the same as talking about Prim ... a wound that never really heals." She sighed quietly, "It's a scar that stays."

"You never know unless you ask honestly. He was always telling tales of their merry band all the time whenever he got the chance. Course you could probably ask that pirate woman I see often enough in the tavern. I can't recall her name, but I'm pretty sure she was part of that group as well." Like damn sure. She's the one Captain Aveline talked about a lot, but for the life of him he couldn't think of her name considering she was mostly referred to as 'wench' and some other choice words.

"Well ... I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask, at least. Or I suppose I could talk to Isabela about it. That's the pirate captain, y'know." Just to clarify. Isabela wasn't a close friend - but she was well on her way to becoming a mentor to Katniss.

Isabela. Yes, that was her name. Remembering it now he makes a bit of a face then shakes his head. "I don't know how I forgot that name. It was said often enough and she knew how to make an entrance." The woman also had a certain presence, which she obviously still had judging by the attention she received at the tavern.

One corner of her mouth lifted as she measured out another shot, "Isabela makes herself known, in all the best ways. I think that's why she can get away with being so sneaky -- you're looking for the flash bang and not expecting the sleight of hand."

"Only those who don't know better get caught up in that. You always have a distraction when you're trying to sneak. Only the great ones know how to be and do both at the same time." Always make sure to check your purses after the flash bang, Katniss.

Notching another arrow, Garris aims for the top of the board this time then firing another one on the left side of the target, covering each of the directions.

"That's probably how they get away with everyone's purses." Katniss muttered under her breath. Enough rogue training had taught her that much.

One corner of her mouth twisted in appreciation, before she started to aim her shot at the north west corner of the target.

"Among other things." You'd be surprised at what they've managed to get away with. He's pretty sure pants had been taken at some point.

Garris' next shot is at the south east corner, smirking a bit at his fellow archer. Looked like they were working on filling it until they were out.

"...Thieves. are weird." She shook her head a little, "Why not just steal what you need, or what someone else needs? Why pick up a lot of garbage just for the fun of it?"

That was the part she really didn't understand. Probably why she was such a lousy rogue, honestly. She took aim, going for the northeast corner.
