WHO: Katniss Everdeen and Yours
WHAT: Falling, and climbing back up again. In many ways
WHEN: Rest of Wintermarch
WHERE: The stables, the ramparts, the staircases, the healing tents.
NOTES: It's Katniss. You know there's going to be something.

Katniss has been taking all her lessons seriously, but the ones she had been working on most were the rogue lessons - lessons in climbing and sneaking in and out of places. Knife throwing into all kinds of targets. Climbing up and down buildings, and quite literally falling off of them.

No one was quite sure what she was training so hard for -- but then most of them had not been to the Emprise du Lion. They had not seen the cages. Katniss was not going to throw away their only chance to save those people, so whatever she needed to know? She would do.

So don't be surprised if she drops in on you, as she falls back into piles of hay or down in a leap.

As anyone will tell Garris, Katniss took far too many risks with herself. Someday, that would change.

She takes it, picking it up as she looked it over. Curious, and ... useful. "Where did you get these? And how much will it cost me to get some too?"

Looked up at him. "I'd like the price of the information to be put in with how to use it?"

"This one and a few others I got back in the Free Marches. So I'm not sure I can give you a good estimate of how much they'll be. Over there a decent set made of good metal could cost you a few gold. I'd expect it to be a similar deal here if you go the metals and the smiths."

Raising a brow and tilting his head some, Garris crosses his arms as he considers her questions. "What's your name?"

She frowned - och, there was no way she was getting to the Free Marches any time soon. She'd have to pay for the price of it, and then some. She was broken from her thoughts by her question, and she answered simply.

"Katniss Everdeen. Scout Everdeen, if you're looking for a title. It's the only one I've got."

"Wasn't looking for one in particular, but good on you for making Scout. Katniss." Not that he's against titles, but it's a bit different then a name. And not like he has much of one to give himself. Maybe captain based on the members of his group, but none of them were there save Emmie.

"Garris Vakrie," he offers even if she hadn't asked, but it was polite since he had asked. "The Inquisition should be able to acquire some or make them. Easy enough to make... I think." It was just metal bent at certain angles after all.

"Yeah, and all I had to do was scare the piss at the soldiers who were doing the weapon proficiency test." Katniss smirked a little, before she nodded and held out her hand to Garris. "Pleasure to meet you."

Manners cost nothing, after all. "I'll have to ask, someone, somewhere, if it's possible to get our hands on some of them."

Well now that was a story if there ever was one. "Really? And exactly what did you do to do that? Don't tell me it was falling off a building in the middle of their training." Whatever it was she seemed rather pleased with herself about it.

"I suppose in the meantime you're more than welcome to hold onto that one until more get made." He'd have to account for having one less, but seemed a small price if she could learn it and being of use.

"No ... I proved to them that a half-blood hunter could shoot as well, if not better, than most of their other archers." She bit her lip, "And I may have proven that by knocking their lunch out of their hands with some well placed shots."

She took it, and smiled a little, before she went to her pockets, "I don't have any coin on me -- if you hold on I can go grab some."

Well now that certainly got his attention. Shooting food out of people's hands? Tricky shot, and would certainly scare anyone who didn't know it was coming. Actually even if you did it was damn frightening.

When Katniss starts going through her pockets, Garris raises a hand, motioning for her to stop before crossing his arms. "How bout we shoot off for it? Got your bow on you?"

Which had been the entire point - well punctuated with arrows. Her spelling was horrible, but at least she knew how to make a statement.

She paused as he put his hand up, then blinked, "Well, yes. Up in the loft." She never honestly went many places without it. "On the range or did you have something different in mind?"

"The range will be just fine." At least to start off with. "Get your bow and shoot off a few rounds with me and the hook is yours." Practice was just never the same if you just did it on your own, and while he always pushed himself it was never the same as having someone there to inspire him.

"Deal?"

She nodded, before she started to climb the stacks of hay to get to the second floor of the barn. She hopped over the railing, snagging her bow and her quiver. She eyed the haystack again, gave him a smirk, and headed back down the stairs.

"Deal. And I'll try not to scare the piss out of you again."

Smug little thing - well not quite that little - which has Garris raising a brow as he watches her take the stairs. "To be fair I think having a body nearly come down on your head would scare the piss out of anyone. You're going to have to get some close shaves to get me worried on the range."

Seeing that Katniss had her things, Garris turns and heads for the targets, idly stretching as they walk. "What's the best shot you think you've pulled off?"

"Well, to be fair, to have someone shouting at me after I've fallen scared the piss out of me? And I try not to have close shaves in the range."

Katniss thought about that one, because she had had a number of really good shots lately. All this practice was paying off with greater strength, which meant she had a longer range and better accuracy. "I'd say top of the ramparts, with the target set up on the far end of the courtyard. The wind made the shots more challenging, and it's the farthest I've ever been able to shoot."

"No, you just like shooting people's lunches out of their hands," he retorts, raising a brow at and tilting his head knowingly.

"That's quite a feat. What about a shot not involving targets or dummies? Not in Skyhold - out in the woods, or any other place with a moving target." He's just getting a feel for her, figuring what Katniss has been up to, mostly so he can consider if things would go past the shooting range.

"Only when they deserve it." Is Katniss's tart reply, as she leads the way to the range.

Ah, so now they were talking moving targets. "Easy - goose in flight off of Lake Luthas while I was standing on the opposite shore. Right through the eye, too." That had been a good day for hunting. "Next best shot was when I was being charged by a Venatori. Less distance, more peril."

Garris allows himself a grin at the reply, though doesn't say anything else on it since he wasn't looking to have an annoyed shooting partner.

The shot with the Venatori is impressive, but it's the one with the goose that has Garris giving a low, impressed whistle. "That sounds like quite the feat. Is this the bow you did it with or was it a different one?"

She looked up at him, flashing a small, pleased smile, before she unhooked her bow and offered it to him. "It was my father's - a present from my mother. It's made of ironbark. Never needed anything else, outside of new bow strings and a fine polish."

A curious tilt of her eyebrows, "What about you?"

Ironbark. He's heard of it, but never seen it. Or held it for that matter, which he does delicately - regardless of how durable it was - after hearing that it was a family gift and heirloom. "I'm a bit envious." He's been through several bows himself. Course that could have been that one stolen and another he bashed on someone's head.

"What about me?" Garris raises his own brows, looking at Katniss with equal curiosity. There had been a few questions that he had asked. Which one was she asking?

"About the bow? Don't be. I didn't want to inherit this soon." She took it back, carefully tucking it back on her back. She thought about it, before saying calmly, "We'll start from the beginning - best shot you've ever pulled off?"

"Hm." He certainly has to think about that one. There's been quite a number of them, but he didn't know about best. "Well there was the one time I shot an arrow through some fire into some explosives and sent four men flying... Though I'll have to say the time I went upside down on a tree limb and caught a man in full armor through the eye slot."

Now it was Katniss's turn to be startled and amazed. "How the hell did you make a shot hanging upside down?" There's a pause, then a very real, "And can you teach me how to do it?"

"Are you telling me you don't know how to shoot while hanging upside down?" There's a smirk on his face, but he is honestly just teasing her, amused really, especially with her asking to be taught. "Can you hang upside down, firstly?"

"No, I know how to balance myself upside down, because I thought it would be useful when hiding. But I never tried to pull off a shot that way." She arched an eyebrow at him. "Probably easier than you can, yes."

"Really? Guess that's something else we'll have to see. I don't find it that hard to do. Course I wouldn't want to hang upside down for too long." He raises a brow back, turning a bit and walking sideways as they continued on. "Shooting upside down does take some time and practice though. It's a completely view that you have to get to."

"Well then I should be just fine." One corner of her mouth twisted as she watched him walk sideways. "I'm always looking for a new way to surprise the enemy -- so I'll get started practicing right away."
